Default Tire Pressure

Anyone going over the indicated 29psi w/ stockies if so, any deteriorated tread life or baldness issues? What is everybody running?

When I had my box, I ran my tires at 32psi cold (pressure set first thing in the morning without being driven)...It gave me excellent handling. The tread life was far better than I ever expected. I rotated the tires every other oil change (about every 10,000 miles)...I traded my box in with 43,000 miles on it, and I kid you not, the tires still looked brand new.

Hope this info can help you out...I'm on the market for an xB again and I'll be running the same 32psi as soon as I get it home :D

I have the OEM Goodyears. I keep them at 33 psi. The fronts wear a little faster then the rears IMO. I have 20k miles on them and the have about 5/32 tread left. (So next winter I'll be running Blizzak snow tires). I'll see what the tread depth on the GYs is before next summer, if it's below 4/32 I'll change out the tires for next summers driving as well.

It seems the GYs don't really go to their 50k rating, IMO. (Unless you want to run it down to the legal limit)

You are better off running the recommended pressure because that is what they feel is best. If you go too high you're going to get excessive wear in the center and maybe a tiny bit better gas mileage but lose breaking distance. If you run them too low you will have excessive outer edge wear and get worse gas mileage. And if you run it too high or low your dummy light will come on and bug you anyway!

the 29 psi is just a recomedation. i usual run my goodyears at 33-35psi and no problems. when i the 29 gas milage goes down the toilet. i would say go to your local tire shop and see what they would say. i go to discount and they say that i can have anywhere between 30-35 and the tires wil ware better and be just fine. on my summer tires i run 40psi and no issues at all

Thanks everyone, I think I'll bump it up to 32ish at least untill my next oil change and see how much of an increase I can get. Good choice on the blizzaks, had a set up in Anchorage work wonders on snow and ice, if you can afford the Extra dough, Nokian Hakapelita makes an awesome tire that looks summer but is "Severe weather rated" only one on the market, had a set on my TL

You'll be fine with 32psi (cold). That's what I set my to. A tiny bit better handling and gas mileage. I rotate my tires every 5,000. My original set got bad after about 25K miles, but I drive a little more aggressive than normal.

I'm running mine at 32 psi also. I chalked them to be sure they were touching evenly and they are. I find much higher than that and it really starts to ride not so great but the 32 is tolerable. This is with the stock Goodyears.

As an aside, is anyone running a different size tire on the stock steelies? Maybe something like a 195/60 that would save a few bucks.

I heard that 185/65/15 (gives a little sidewall for a more) is a smoother ride and suposed to correct the Speedometer at faster speeds.

39psi here.

I have run them from 44-32psi and have found that 38/39 -44 does not have a negitive effect on MPGs. 44 makes for a stiffer ride and did not help out my MPGs at all. Anything below 38 and it starts to lower your mileage.

I dont have my record book with me so I cant post exact numbers, but I measure wear on the inside, middle and outside of the tire in 2 different places. Even wear on all 4 tires.

25K miles on OEM tires, aftermarket wheels. I rotate every 5Kand check/reset pressure weekly.

35 is fine for the steelies and will give a good mpg. My next set of 15s will be 195/60s on a 7 inch rim. They will be run at 35 also for best mpgs. That is where it's at right now with gas prices.

35 in the front
32 in the rear.

Why you may ask? Where does the majority of the weight sit on our boxs? I run that for my 15 twists and my 17 summer wheels.

After first free oil change the dealer inflated them to 32+ all around. I've preferred that over 29 ever since. It feels like the car has a little more handle of the road, but that's just me.

With low pros try and stay near 35 psi on front and 33 in the rear.

I replaced mine with 195/60-15 Michelin Exalto A/S last fall, running 32 psi. Their diameter actually falls right between our stock 185/60 and the bB's 185/65. MUCH nicer ride, definitely better handling, and the size looks much better suited to the car's tall, boxy profile (not to mention that the Michelins are whisper-quiet!).

That happens to be the size I'm going with in 2 monthes when I get a set of light weight 15" wheels. I'm using 195/60/15 Kuhmo Ecsta ASXs cause they are only 45 bucks each.
