help with front sway bar removal
as of right now im stuck. i have no clue how to remove the sway bar out. its completly unbloted from the sub frame. so can someone direct me through this processe or point in the right direction? thanks in advance,
take it to a shop and let them deal with it.. trust me.. i took it to my friends shop to do the work myself on a lift, and it was still a major pain in the ___. you got to play with it.. or try twisting it out.. the only way i got mine out was with muscle..
The hardest part for me was getting mine over the power steering lines. The weird curve of the bar and the location of the lines really makes it difficult.
As far as the bolts...If you have the whole subframe hanging, you should be good. You need to unbolt the tie-rod ends, the rack and pinion steering, and of course the four bolts that hold the inner bushings in place. There are 4 big bolts ofr the sub-frame/engine cradle and there are 3 engine mount bolts. I fought with mine for quite awhile till a co-worker came over and helped me get it loose.
Are you putting in an aftermarket one? If you use the Hotchkis, as I did, you will need to grind or cut out the cap thingies for the new bushings. On mine, the holes didn't line up and I cross threaded one of the bolts. Just use the OEM or old one as a guide (put the old one on top of the new one to see if the holes are close). Just be careful and make sure the holes are lined up.
Also, just so you know, the front sway bar doesn't do much. Mine feels a little stiffer, but I don't think it was worth the trouble I went through getting in in there.
Mine took me from 8:30am till around 1:30pm, but I also did the rear sway (10 minutes or so) and a Perrin Pulley during this time.
I wish I could help more, but unless I crawl under the car, I can't tell you what bolts to take out at this time. Sorry! And good luck with it!

It took myself and an engineer 8 hours in a well outfited garage. Clearer instructions would of helped a holw lot from the vendor, they are rather misleading.
Ok, it needs to be man handled and you really need two people, one on each side of the sway bar and ability to shift the hanging sub frame.
So, unbolt, sub frame, rear link arms, rear engine mount, steering rack, power steering hoses cros over on rear of sub frame mount, end links, sway bar brackets. Then push the passenger side subframe forward as far as possible then twist out the swar bar from the passenger side, twisting it backwards. I think we had to first push it to the drivers side slightly to clear the passenger side steering knucIkle. Then we threaded the new on in the same fashion.
I like mines on my xa. I thought it was worth the effort, I just wished the instructions were way clearer.
PS, its like trying to remove or install the rear roll up privacy screen for you storage area behind the seat.

CHEATERS!!!!!!!! You should be limited to that 4 page instruction book from hos.
I love mines, I took an off ramp I use to love to take my mercedes 240d on at 45mph, its rated at 25mph. Wwwweeeee.... It was great, the car banked slightly and I just had to make a slight adjustment on the wheel and the car went right around the corner and merged without changing speed at all. Just ____ed in 4th as I started to take the exit and tapped the brake slightly to bring it down to 50mph.

Why remove it in the first place? It's plenty beefy to handle whatever you can throw at it. The only thing it really needs is the upgraded end link bushings from Energy. Add the rear Progress bar and you are ready for some serious action.

I'm curious incase he is swapping the stocker for a Hotchkis one or something cause it's not really needed.
