so i have to get my girl friend a car so she can get around i would love to buy here a XB but i dont have the money, anyway i was planing on s/cing this summer but it looks like that money will be going to her. so ill have around 3k to spend 5k MAX what should i get that looks good and will drive i was thinking maybe a mk3 jetta or something, any ideas

 

Wait... why doesn't she get the car? Or at least pitch in the money? As far as a cheap car... look in to an older Corolla from the 199x's. When i got rid of mine it was taken off my hans for $3100 by the dealer.

 

she doesn't get the car cause she paying for her own schooling, im paying for my car but at least my parents are helping me with schooling. so i was gonna do the good bf thing and just get her a car without her knowing.

the original plan was letting her save up for a car then giving her 3k on top of that but with all the ____ shes paying for her savings as of now is up to $0. ill look in to older corollas thanks man

i was gonna type something to that extent... But seriously. You are 19. Go out and buy yourself the S/C. Spend that money on yourself. I mean, giving her maybe 1K is ok, but 3k? What if you buy her the car and she breaks up with you? Then what? You are gonna be wishing you had that supercharger...

 

Realistically speaking... I agree.

Unless you're engaged at the very least I'd just help her out with the 1k, that's a hefty amount to receive as it is.

you know what, don't buy the s/c. but don't give her the money. here's the reason behind my madness.....if she's struggling without money and without a car, and you roll up with a supercharger, she's gonna get that "shoved in my face" impression. keep your money, but make it seem like you're struggling. my ex never knew i had $5,000 of spending money. cause i don't want her nagging me or calling me "rich" or whatever because i worked hard for that ____.

you guys are fun. haha and yeah. do not waste your money. 3k is nothing when it comes to student loans because you do not have to pay for it until after you graduate and the interest is way low. if she wants to buy a car and has great credit she can use her school loans to get it.

and if you guys are still together when she graduates, you can give her the 3k + interest then

i agree with both of them, you sound like you love her alot like no tomorrow but your still 19 and there is alot more to explore so just go easy with your relationship and when she graduates yes give her 1k as a reward but 3k is just alot to hand out like while your still dating and that young. go ahead and buy your S/C and enjoy it while you still can because after you won't have time for it, don't be one of those people who say i wish i could of done this when i was young just because you decided to get marry at such a really young age.

 

Holy crap my friend. Hang on to your money! You are 19 and believe me you start with something like this you set a VERY DANGEROUS precedent for giving her things in the future. Believe me man.....tread lightly here, I am sure you want to be a hero to her but this is clearly not the way!

Plus if you get a supercharger and lets say one night your a little honery if you know what I mean and she isn't having it...you can hop in your car and get a stiffy when you hit the throttle! Ahhhhh yeah, superchargers are all about your pleasure day or night!

Seriously man... if ya'll were married, that would be a completely different scenario. But as much as you love her, there's no guarantee that you'll be together in 5 years.

As far as the S/C goes... it's your money. But a word of caution, I'd only go that route if you could afford to buy a second S/C unit in the near future, since those things have a habit of breaking.

Just like they say with turbo'ing your car... only do it, if you can afford to replace the engine, in the case it all blows up.
