Default question about rings around stock steelies...

Ok I bought some new wheel covers from Wal Mart a couple of weeks ago and I noteced they like to kinda come off the steeelie every now and then. I noticed when I had put them on there's like a ring kinda sticking out of the steel wheel & i'm thinking thats why it likes to come off. Is there a way to take that off? I know they were part of the oem wheel covers because they were really stick on the wheel (which is good cuz they dont come off). If anyone can help it would be great! thanks!

Hmmm, I don't quite see what you are talking about. Where, specifically is the ring you refer to? Perhaps you could post a picture?

you get what you pay for, walmart wheel covers are pieces of crap. i put some on my prizm and within a month they had all fallen off and got lost while driving.

i have some nice trim rings on my xB and those are on rock solid. i also didnt buy them from walmart

yeah i will post a pic. They are the rings that keep the original wheel covers on tight. I never had these on my Mazda 626 before, so I will post a pic in awhile.

Hey Ray,
As you requested I checked my xB stock wheels and covers and can see the steel wire retaining ring you are referring to. I don't know how to remove it other than to break it off. Maybe talk to Scion Parts and Service about the ring.

I do know that most Toyotas have a retaining ring like this. One of the rings on my son's older Camry broke and the cap fell off. We never did figure out how to fasten the cap again. Toyota would know.

Also, check out the following 2 page thread. It talks about fitting aftermarket caps on the xB:

Aftermarket Hubcaps:

Good luck. BTW, nice new NM SCIONS Avatar. :D RPM
