Default Have you ever helped someone badly injured or saved someone?

____, today I seen something and helped out that I still cant get out of my head. I was driving up this steep hill and I see this kid that gotta be around 11-14 years old flying down the hill on his bike. All of a sudden he loses control, smashes on the ground hard, hits his head on the sidewalk, rolls more and literally cant stop. by the time he stopped he got to where my car was and I was lookin at the kid and said bro you alright. he was dazed as hell and I figured he basically got a bad ___ concussion or something. he didnt say anything, then he turns his head and its just gushing blood. kid jumped up holding his head stampeding around crying and not knowing what to do. i tried calming the kid down and got him to sit down on the sidewalk at least but the kid was bleedin from his arms but more from his forehead. i called the cops and told them to send an ambulance and whatever else, they came and did what they had to do and took him to the hospital in the ambulance.

Dont know how he is now but that ____ bugged me the hell out and hes lucky i was there to call someone cause the only people around was his friend around the same age and he was laughing the whole time until he seen what really happen. kid coulda been even seriously more injured if nobody else went up that street. hope the kid is alright but that ____ had to suck.

Not gonna lie though im usually the ___ that laughs at everyone for falling and bustin they ___ and when that kid first lost control and fell off the bike i started to laugh but halfway in my nerves kicked in and seen how serious it was and was like damn.

Yes a couple times now.

1- A massive accident on the over-pass here in WA state. 5 passengers in a three passenger car. Son with his ear sawed off by the seat belt. Wife knocked out, husband with a massive concussion and delirious. Daughter and infant were unscathed outside of minor cuts and bruises.

2- Drowning victims: 5, 8, 19 and 65. (lifeguarding)

3- Heart attack at a restaurant

and finally I consider this a potential for serious injury

4- A woman was having a seizure at the mall, and bystanders were yelling to hold her down. Please if you ever see anyone having a seizure, do not hold them down, do not stick anything in their mouth, let them be! Move anything that they can come in contact with that could cause injury (chairs, tables etc). Holding them down will only lead to broken bones, concussions etc.

damn good with all that. question about that seizure thing though. whats the deal with someone having a seizure and them swallowing their tongue. does that really happen? cause i remember back in the day in the early 90's they said to put a spoon or somethin in the mouth so they bite down on it.

not really a bad injury, one time i was just rolling down the road, and two guys were riding motorcycles, pulled out of a pizza place and one of them hit the throttle, and he just lost the rear wheel and spun out their on the road and was thrown off, i stopped and blocked the lane and flipped on my hazzards while his friend came back and helped him get back on the bike.

im a lifeguard at a waterpark and one kid was in the lazy river sitting on the outer edge of his tube with his hands inside the tube. i kept telling him to sit right but he wouldnt listen so i gave up.
and what do you know some kid flips him over on accident and he is trapped in his innertube feet and arms up through the hole of his innertube and he couldnt wiggle free. i saw it and laughed when i saw him flipped over but then i saw he was really stuck and had to jump in to save him.

i didnt think much about it after, but after i got off of my shift i thought about how scary that must be. no air and basically hog tied under water, i still feel bad for laughing at the kid

1. i was in a car accident once (when i was like 14, we got T-boned turning left) and my cousin got seriously injured. and i had to pull her out of the car. In the end she had some hip fractures and had to do rehab and give up her scholarship for soccer but she lived thats the good part.

2. I was at my aunts house and one of the guest's son had epilepsy and had a seizure. I held his head still to prevent him from getting any brain damage while we called for help.

When someone is having a seizure you are supposed to hold their head to the side to prevent any brain damage and from them choking on their own tongue/saliva. That is what i was taught to do. (Uncle's a nurse, never thought i'd ever have to do it though)

i've had my life saved more times than i have saved a life
i feel good about helping those people cuz i have been in situations like them
so when i hear stories of people saving other peoples lives it makes me feel really good
its a goos thing to know that there are people out there that are willing to help a random person out, whether they are in a life threatening position or not

If you're 16 and you've already had your life saved a bunch of times, then you're probably doing something wrong.

ive been helped out when i couldn't help myself more than i've help others
sorta make sense

the only major things that happened to me was when i got into that accident, when i was mountain biking, and when i was riding my razor down this steep hill and lost control.

lol
and i know how to shoot a gun
so i wont be doing that the wrong way

The only real reason why not to anymore, is because they do not have control of ANY muscle in their body, meaning that biting down on a spoon could do more harm than swallowing a tongue. Weird way to describe it, but swallowing a tongue can happen but seizures usually dont last all that long, meaning that if they do CPR would be a quick and painless way to help clear the airways. Something else to remember is that this is an extremely embarrassing ordeal, try to keep as many people away as possible. Last time I checked I would hate to wake up, foaming at the mouth and sprawled out across a floor with people looking fearful and pointing.

But ya, even CPR just changed, chest compressions only are as successful as the usual compressions/breathing technique.

Working at night clubs, I've saved a few guys from getting beat up pretty bad. I pulled one guy away from about 4-5 guys when they started beating on him. Ungrateful jerk started fighting with me after I saved him while he was getting punched from 4 different directions!

On a serious not, I cant really say that I have saved someone, nor has there been a time I have helped someone who was badly injured.

You aren't supposed to hold the persons head at all. What you should do is try to place your hands or anything softer than the ground underneath or near it. When the person has the seizure, if they are shaking violently(not all seizures are big time), they may hit their head and cause serious damage.

Basically, get the person to the ground as soon as possible. Get everything/everyone away from the person and try to protect their head. That is all you need to do during the seizure. Afterwards is a different story. Try to keep the person calm. Ask them if they know what happened(most will know if they have had them before, or have them regularly) and wait for EMS or a first responder to show up and take over everything.

I deal with seizures a lot at the jail I work at.

I was a full-time E.M.T. on an ambulance for about 6 years so, yeah.
That's great that you were there to help and that you DID help. The thing that really disturbs me is this growing trend today where nobody wants to help anyone. It's sickening. Way to go...you get a gold star.

exactly, if you hold their head bones can easily snap, and the first thing to probably give would be the neck.
