Weird new speed bumps
A new program dubbed "Drive CarePhilly" is being rolled out in Philadelphia in an attempt to get drivers to follow speed limit. This effort includes the deployment at about 100 intersections of high tech decals that create a 3-D image, to make drivers think there's something in the intersection:
"Plastic material that is laid down, and it gives the illusion of being a hump in the roadway. And therefore people react to it as though it were a hump, and slow down. The driver sees this in the roadway, and they think that its some protrusion up out of the roadway, and not a perfectly flat surface. So they slow down before they drive over it."

Thoughts? Seems extremely dangerous to me. These are going to scare the cráp out of old people and cause a lot of rear-end collisions as people slam on the brakes in the middle of traffic.

it might scare people at first, but c'mon, humans have brains... i'm pretty sure people will start to memorize where these things are and completely start to ignore them after the 3rd time they drive through there.
lol... that reminds me of of the 3d sidewalk art show.. really cool.

*rolls eyes* yet another good idea on paper. like the pulling people over and giving them a coupon for something. good idea in concept, all you're doing is scaring the crap out of people.
dumb.
Its like the little boy who cried woof. People drive around and 10 times they slow down and its nothing. The 11th time they say screw it and hit a speed bumpt at 45mph get airborn loose control and hit a pedestrian on the side of the road.

That's a dangerous idea. We're not talking about Hometown USA where the locals will get used to seeing them. We're talking about Philadelphia...a town with tons of tourists and "new people" in the city every day. I can easily see someone swerving into another lane or jamming on the brakes because they think they're about to run over something. I see lawsuits.
