Default cop trying to get me to race???

So I'm going through wilmington, sitting at a stop light in the right hand lane. A cop is in the right side turn lane on the side of the intersection to my right. I guess he was gonna make a right on red, but didn't get there quite soon enough, cuz I got the green and started to roll. I see him start to move out, so I get on the brakes, assuming that since he's pulling out in front of me while still rollin' slow he must have just been called to go somewhere. But he sees me, stops, and he's kinda in my way to try and go straight through. By this point i'm just aggravated (i hate stupid drivers, especially cops), I start moving again but he starts to pull out again, so I rev (idk, i just tend to do that when I'm mad, people who cut me off on the interstate, i'll rev at when i finally go by) while motioning for him to go cuz he's already in my way.

So we're side by side, first cars at the next light. Out of the corner of my eye i see him look my way, so i look at him, then just turned my head back and started shaking my head like "whatever." green light, we both start rolling, him starting a little slower than I, next thing I know, he comes FLYING by me. limit is 45, he was goin maybe 60+. so we meet at the next light again, but as i'm rollin up to the light i downshifted kinda hard so he would hear me coming. so i kinda tap my gas a couple times at the light, not much though. light turns green and we both take off kinda heavy, but not like, drag racing heavy. as soon as i hit the limit i let off (he kept going to maybe 60 again), and obviously i let him stay a little ahead the whole time we were accelerating, trying to let him be the judge of "excessive accleration", seeing as how i had probably pressed my luck with him enough as it was.

anything that i could've been ticketed for if he was having a bad day? keep in mind that I never sped, never asked him "if he wanted to run," at no point was i the original umm...instigator?, and when i revved, it was never past maybe 3k rpm if even that high (although i may have gone higher when he pulled out in front of me).

i just love how he was trying to get me to actually race him, i do some stupid things, but i have more sense than that. i have no plans on reporting him or anything but could you get a cop in trouble if they tried to race you like that?

Not without some seriously conclusive video footage sent to the news media. Otherwise, he'd just deny it and/or his superiors would bury it; it would be your word against his. If he ever did get in trouble, you would be a marked man.

It doesn't matter if you back off at the speed limit or not. A speed contest is defined as speed contest regardless of the actual speed you are going. You might have grounds for entrapment, but it would be an extremely uphill battle to have that stick.

haha cops can do whatever they want, remember they are the law, who are the courts going to believe especially your age they want to see if your stupid enough to race the cop.

I remember I was at traffic school a couple years ago, and on the first day the instructor asks you, what did you do to get yourself in traffic school, everybody tells the stories, speeding, running a stop sign, etc.

So the intructor tells us a story where a kid driving a honda with exhaust was at a stop light with an officer, the officer rev the engine and so did the kid, so when the light turned green the kid launch out of 1st gear, the cop pulled him over 200 yards after. I believe the instructor told us the he was cited for unreasonable use of a motor vehicle, speeding, and than all the fix it tickets. All in all I think he went to court trying to fight it and they suspended his driving until age 18.

unfortunately in court, the cop will probably have more credibility, unless you have hard evidence to prove otherwise. i suggest you dont force the issue.

actually its not too hard to fight a ticket. they dont usually keep enough proof. but anyways revving your engine is illeagle, also doing it at a light and especially chirping your tires because it signals street racing.

I would have just slowed down and ignored that cop. Over all he could bust you, and the court would believe the cop.

well that cop was looking to give you a ticket. you just lacked the the stupidity to fall for it. very smart not racing the cop.

some areas let you race cops at local drag strips. at sacramento raceway. they used to have vs cop races. it helped keep kids from street racing. i knew two of the cops who ran it. if you told them in advance who you wanted to run against they would try and get the COP to show up. this was like 1995 or so. no idea if they do it now a days.

2nd. I would've even gone as far as turning down a road after he went ahead and avoid him all together. You never know what mood/power trip they might be on and you might just happen to be the poor soul they abuse their power on.

i'm not saying you're wrong, but just out of curiousity, how is revving illegal? it wasn't like a full out, redline rev. maybe 3000 rpm tops, if even that much.

2nd, i didn't chirp. come to think of it, i can't even remember the last time i chirped my tires it's been so long.

Aggressive acceleration can be considered exhibition of speed. It's all up to the cop.
