Default Helpful tips

I would like to say welcome to all in this new site and new kinda car. I am seriously thinking about getting behind the wheel of one. I test drove one yesterday and now I am ready to kick it. The only thing that holds me back is next month and wonder what will I get for my 01 Altima. My job as a letter carrier consist of alot of walking and after work I am too tired to push a clutch. now i want to do away with the stick, I need an automatic car. I think this is the one for me cause it is DIFFERENT, within my budget and so on.

What I want to know are, Is there anything bigger than an 18 that could go on a xb. As far as 18's is there another tire size that can go on the car besides the rubberband(35 series) I see? What are the average monthly payments and why did you pick the xb and not an element. That was my first choice but after the test drive and the knowledge of the xb, I have second thoughs of the Honda.

Thank you and sorry for the booklet.

First of all, Welcome to ScionLife!

I'm not very accurate about tire sizes on the xB, but a local is running 19's on his xB without rubbing. He IS, in fact, running 35-series though, to ensure proper plus-sizing.

My payment is going to be around 325 or so for 48.

The automatic xB is a good choice. It's not all that slow, and sometimes, you just don't want to drive home with a 5-speed.

as far as the 18's anything is possible , if you have the money, i know 19's fit, i thought about doing 20's but decided against it because i still want the car driveable.

what you will get for your altima go to www.kbb.com get the tradin value print it out and give it to the dealership, they have to give you at least that much for it.

monthly payments depend on your credit and how much you are financing, i have bad credit and am getting a 15,700.00 xb for about 300.00 a month, someone with good credit can get a 18,000.00 xb for the same amount. it all depends on credit and how much financed. hope this helps

I didn't look at the Element because I hate Hondas, and it really is ugly, the xB is just different...

As far as your rim questions, many people can give different answers on the specifics, but I would reccomend looking at the wheel fitment FAQ for some answers too...CLICK HERE to see the Wheel Fitment FAQ

And lastly, welcome to the site, ask many questions, go buy your box, enjoy the new lifestyle...

Congrats on finding the site! I just made the same decision you are going to make. I looked at the Element and the xB for a while, but being a 19 year old college student and working full time delivering pizzas, I could justify the price. There would be no way I could afford the Element.

But, you have to consider that the element is marketed towards a different type of buyer: People in their 20's who have an active outdoor lifestyle. The Honda doesn't have carpet for easier cleaning, it's got a potent engine, and decent torque. Another thing that the Element has is an INCREDIBLE shifter/clutch. Seriously, Honda has the best in the business - if you're someone who passionately loves manual transmission cars, Hondas are for you. It's almost as if the the shifter is guiding you hand into the gates, ending with a very satisfying "snick" The thought brings a smile to my face. IIRC, the Honda is also larger.

The xB on the other hand is a sleek, little tuner car. It's targets audience is literally kids (well, people in their late teens and early 20's ). The price shows it, starting out at mid 13 thousand. It's designed for people who live active lifestyles, but also like the idea of custimization of their vehicles. It gets better gas mileage than the Element, but it also has 50 less HP and 50+ less torque. You get a better stock sound system in the xB too.

For me, though, this price was the dealbreaker. I added an automatic transmission because I've been getting tired of shifting for the past 3 years. I then added cargo cover, fog lights, floor mats, and the rear bumper applique. THe total price, including all fees and taxes came to $17,011. I've put 5k down and my down payment, and got financed through my credit union with a rate of 4.99% @ 60 months. Payments are around 226 a month

Why do you "hate" a freakin car company? Seriously, it's this type of blindly biased hatred that is really the downfall of most car owners. Please site specific reasons for this type of response.

Actually, if you had what you called a "thought" you would quickly realize that your comments are stupid, and you do nothing but make yourself look dumb.
See your first mistake was thinking that I needed to justify myself to you, and your second mistake was thinking that you were right...
Please let me know where your infinite source of wisdom is for you to say that I have a "baseless claim", you have no authority to declare what I feel, you don't even know me... does any of this make sense to you?

I hate Hondas, I am allowed to hate Hondas, and you need to accept that you have no control over that...

You have made a decision, yet offer no reason why you made that choice. I could understand if you had said that you hated Honda's because a catastrophic engine failure cause your family's Honda SUV to explode nearly killing everyone in your family or some other similar reason, but to hate a car company without reason makes you look like a blind zealot.

"Hate" is such a strong word, and to use it to describe your feeling about a car company is nuts. To not give a simple reason why only proves that you have no valid reason for this hatred.

i owned a honda suv. i was happy with it.
i know many people who own honda's and acura's
and what not.
honda is a great company. not the best but its just fine
and dandy themselves. as for the element. its a lot
more in price than a xb, but its a different kinda car.
more OUTDOOR/RUGGED then a grocery getter scion.
the element is a nice car. i really liked it when it first
came out and i still do kinda like it.
i always said that if u get one, paint all the gray panels
and lower it on some rims. u'll have a TIGHT ride!

i think that element looks PIMP... and with a nice big engine
u can actually merge onto the freeway with a car full of people,
a/c on, on a hot summer day. a 1.5 lacks power, and if its
auto.. even LESS power. i drive a scion. im happy with it.
soemtimes wished it had a little more power.. but its good enuff.
btw... honda's shifter's feel like butter.. the scion's shifter
feels like u're shifting in a big jar of rocks.. hop into ANY YEAR
civic(stick) and u'll see.

i'd get a scion over a element:
PRICE and the way they look stock..
stock for stock, an element looks like ___, a baseline element
has some NASTY ___ wheelcover donut things. its gross.
and thats like starting at 17grand.

everyones entitled to their opinions... lets not hate..
lets appreciate.. LOL hahah that sounds so ___...

thats the coolest feature to the element..
u can actually TACK down the flap things and its like this cobana type
thing.. very cool feature.. 250 bucks for it.

anywhos.. a scion's weak points imo:
1.5 engine, rear seats are too vertical(numerous complaints from passengers),
rattles with time, and is not illuminated inside enough.

elements weak points: SORRY PRICE, baseline looks like ___... LITERALLY.. ___!
it has ugly ___ donut rim things(i can't even explain it but its nasty). more than 50% of the damn car is not even painted.. lol...

Just so you know, you CAN NOT go with kbb.com. I just recently found that dealers arent using kbb anymore becuase of its popularity. Your better off going with the black book value, or just ask a local dealer, but do it seprately. Go in with the look like your gonna pay cash for it, and then say, BTW how much can i get for my trade. You may find that it is worth your while to sell your car privately, you should be able to get more for it.

How would i know, cause i was offered a rediculiously low price for my trade in, and now im trying like mad to sell it privately so my 18K Scion doesnt turn into a 21K Scion.

welcome. I say it comes down to what do you want... Element is an SUV, and xB isn't. I think SUV's are going the way of the dinosaur.
And for the record Honda is still a cool company, and all SUV owners should roll over and die.
