Default "STD" Coilovers ("STANDARD") for gen1 xB

just picked up a set of “STD” Coilovers aka: “STANDARD” Coilovers. I like the features on these coilovers compared to others that are out there thus far. I will give you the lowdown on the performance on these coilovers after install. I’ve taken few pics of my STD Coilovers for all of you to take a peek at. The coilovers are well built and well made quality Coilovers.

Those are beautiful. I love the measuring hash marks on the strut... no more counting threads.

Looks good. But i dont like the camber plate having the studs mushroom shaped on the under plate. I have the F2 coils and the gold piece that shifts camber hits the studs that are mushroom shaped. If they were recessed into the camber plate then you can slide the camber a lot more. Im looking to switch my F2 plates with either cusco or maybe even K-sport ones. They have recessed studs and will allow more sliding movement to allow more camber in the front.

I was able to install the front coilovers before I ran out of daylight on Friday, and installed the rear Saturday morning.

STD Coilover w/ BBS RA 15x6.5 - FALKEN 512 - 195/50/15
Apex of fender to ground - 21in.
Apex of fender to wheel/rim edge lip - 2.5in.
Apex of fender to center of wheel - 10.5in.

(For comparison only) - OEM strut w/Goldline 2in. drop springs compared to STD Coilover - 7in. w/ bottom perch moved up for another 1in.

Friday

RAZOR is 2in. wide.

Saturday

Finally got the rear setup done. The front was so low that I couldn’t jack the rear without the front bumper lifting up, so I had to use my mini ramp to drive up the front wheels and allowing the rear to lift without the bumper lifting. Since the whole car was up, I went ahead and raised the front a tad because I was literally sweeping the streets and hitting anything that was 1.75in. in height. Forget speed bumps; I had to drive thru alleys, and pushing bottles and dead cat with my front lip. I ended up pulling out a whole lot of debris under the car. Now you know that’s low.

So far, I like the front where it’s at 2.50in. from ground to bottom edge of the front lip. The rear is a tad higher, yet I’ll drive it around for a few days and see if it settles in before I go for the tools.

Now for the road test. Mind you, I thought and practiced safety of others in mind and for myself.

I did go for a drive and took it easy before going all out. There is 8 dial settings for the Front (1 Softest – 8 Hardest) and the Rear has 12 settings (1 Softest – 12 Hardest).
Wheel Specs. BBS RA 15x6.5 - FALKEN 512 195/50/15

On street, I was able to drive comfortably with settings dialed in front for 3 and 5 in the rear, and this seems to be good for my set up. I was able to take rebounds without bottoming out and no scrubs or rub. Taking fast tight turns with dip with no problems and car stayed on course going 60mph. So far, I was able to articulate over speed bumps and driveways without scrape and without my teeth gritting or toes curling. This is a good sign.

Next I felt confident that my set up is dialed in height wise so, I went onto the freeway and started out slow and worked the MPH then started to with quick lane change and taking the “high and low” dips on freeways that I know of, and it passed with flying colors. I also went to a secluded street in an industrial area and slalom the vehicle, and also tested the slamming of the brakes and vehicle test very well overall. Wider wheel and tire would benefit much.

Only negative thing that I ran into with STD is that when installing the rear shocks, you will need to remove the Dial setting **** off the top of the shocks in order to install it through the top. The **** is held in place with a tiny allen screw which STD did not include. I did have a micro allen and was able to remove and I left it off and I’m able to dial the settings without the ****.

I don’t want to give you my final word or grade on these yet till I test it for another week and see how they perform up to my driving and standards. Stay post and Subscribe to this Thread.

great pics and info on the initial impression. sounds like the coils are a solid set and have a lot going for them from your description.

other people with new parts/installs to share ... TAKE NOTE. this is how it should be done.

Those SOBs drop low.
I wish the roads around here would allow for a ride height of that.
