Default General Altimax HP are excellent stock size replacements

Got about 600 miles on them and they are excellent. Traction especially in the wet is fantastic and handling is is as if I went +1 on a lighter rim.

I burned thru the stock Eagles as quick as seemed reasonable, horrible tires or just a terrible match for the 'box I don't know which? I switched to Yoko Avid TRZ's and went through 2 sets in 80k miles. They are decent tires but defintely tend to get real loose in the rain and snow. The General's are H rated as opposed to T for the Yoko's but they are quieter and have a better ride, no inclination to hydroplane and are far more responsive ripping around town plus they are a bit lighter.

Can't wait to see how they hold up over the life of the tire.

Default ....GENERAL ALTIMAX HP 205/60/15.....

I, too, just slapped on a set of GENERAL ALTIMAX HP tires.
205/60/R15 is the size that I chose. I am lowered on H techs and I want to fill the wheel gap. I am not interested in low profile tires on large wheels.
These tires are rated 2nd best in it's catagory, and are cheaper than most tires rated. See this link for ratings:
http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires....del=Altimax+HP
Tire Rack sells these for $62 plus $38 shipping. I found a place that sold them to me for $68 with free shipping.
Good Tread design?

I am amazed at the traction, dry or wet.

Default ....Fresh rubber.....

Yes, on the stock steel wheels. You can go wider and taller than the stock tire size.
There is plenty of space in our wheel wells.
What size did you get Wattage?

Here is a link to the ratings of all the GRAND TOURING tires that TireRack sells:

http://www.tirerack.com/tires/survey....jsp?type=GTAS

I had plenty of tread left on my Kumho's but they lost traction in wet conditions after 40,000 miles. Fresh rubber changed all that.

Great thread. I had just narrowed my tire selection to the two brand tires you are discussing (Yoko or Gen). With your recomendations, the General Altimax HP's will be my next tires. I am still trying to decide on the stock size, or the 205 width. Trying to decide if the slightly higher rolling resistance of the wider tire is worth it, or just stay with the stock size. I baby the BEE almost all the time, and mine is an automatic, so no burn-outs, and I managed to get 50K on the stock Eagles, but their life is ending. Thanks for the great information.

^I think anything is better then the stock tires. I just replaced my stock tires at 55,000 miles. I chose kumho asx 195/60/R15 and love them better then the stockers.

Default ....GENERAL ALTIMAX HP 205/60/R15....

Here are the GENERAL ALTIMAX HP 205/60/R15 tires mounted with 30 pounds of air in them. There is no 'buldge' at the bottom, front or rear.
The tire shop filled the tires with 28 lbs. and there was no buldge before I topped off the air at 30PSI. Yes, 29 PSI is recommended, with two cold snaps, I'm about 29 now (2 weeks later).

Have you had them long enough to determine if they have any effect on fuel economy?

Default .....0.000002%......

Well, I do keep track of my milage, I get 28-32 miles per gallon.

I have had these tires for 2 months now and I can not say if they have less rolling resistance then the Kumho's they replaced, The center smooth tread makes for a smooth and quiet ride. I can not feel anything in the seat of my pants.
No, let me re-phrase that......
I can not measure the increase in efficiency, but I can sure feel the GREAT TRACTION in wet or dry conditions.
GRAB BITE FEEL TRACTION

I would recomend these tires strongly.

Can any tire improve MGP's by a measurable amount? If so, you had really bad tires!

I mentioned it because you went up a couple of widths from stock and that could have an effect on fuel efficiency.
Thanks for your information and I'm already in the process of procuring a set of these tires.

I made the leap from OEM Goodyears to the General Altimax 205/60R-15's. The higher the speed, the quieter they are compared to the Goodyears. At 70 mph, still only 1 or 2 db difference (measured with meter). Slower speeds, about the same, If one went with OEM size, but the Altimax: This would lower the noise level also, since less tread would be making contact with the pavement. Am very happy with the General!
Expect longer tread wear than rated, due to the 300 lb Max Load rating increase. Our light BOX, doesn't even flex the tire much. Plus, my speedo is Spot-On with the increase of 1" diameter. Like the wide, but also want nice ride. Too old to be bounced around, I guess. Thanks for this posts information, I am happy with my choice.
Happy BOXing.

Couldn't find the General's in my town but ended up putting on some nice Uniroyal Tiger Paw Touring. $349 out the door.

Hope my step daughter likes them.

When we bought our box last year it had new general altimax tires on it, and my husband has a hard time getting them to squeal around corners, even in the rain.We are sticking with those when we have to replace them. They are loud, though. But they give me peace of mind when my husband is driving.

Default ...Compared to what?

Bugandxbandme:
The XB is not noise insulated as many other cars are, from the factory.
Unless your box was dynamatted, I think that it's the XB's lack of soudproofing that you are hearing.
In other words, any tire will sound louder on the XB / XA.
I wish you could compair the stock tires to the Altimax HP's.
They are rated quieter than most tires rated, see link to chart:
http://www.tirerack.com/tires/survey....jsp?type=GTAS
I think that any tire will be loud, or louder.
What did you used to drive? That might be what you are comparing/hearing.
And I have yet to get a squeel.

Now I don't know if I'll go with these or the General Exclaim UHP for my 17's this summer.
