H.I.D. Q and A
what is the most commonly bought reputable brand of h.i.d.'s for the tC? More importantly is there a plug and play unit with high/low beams for the '09 out yet? I've seen low but bi-xenon would be nice.
I would stay away from plug and play HID kits. I hear that some people have good look with it, but I have seen more times where people melt the harness. Very expensive to repair. Buy a kit with a relay. MobileHID I hear is pretty good, and Operatic.
ive always bought mobile hid kits. make sure to get the relay, and when you do make sure to wrap it to keep it from getting wet lol ive gone thru a few.
i needed some new hid's because i sold my old ones because i almost sold my car. so this time i bought Operatic because they were cheaper in price

I've been using Oznium ballasts for 3 years without a single problem (they don't sell them anymore) and I've been running Operatic bulbs for over a year without any issues. Also, just ordered a full kit from Operatic.
I have been running Mobile HID Digital Slim Ballasts since 12/1/08 with out a relay. Mobile HID said that the relay wasn't necessary with the digital ballasts. No problems and I love them.
As far as High and low beam for the 2009s, I am going to buy another set of HID for my high beams (Some day I think). There would be no easy way of making the low beam in a stock housing work as a high beam too.
My bother's old Saab had a mechanical flap or something in the projector housing that moved the cut-off on the HIDs higher for the high beams.
The tC doesn't have this we have separate bulbs for the High beams. So my assumption would be that you need a second set of HIDs for the High Beams.

I've been running the same HID kit on two different tC's with 3 different sets of bulbs, without a relay, since 06 and I haven't had a single problem.
My sisters kit has the relay, simply because I'd rather have something go wrong with mine than hers.

MOBILE HID...isn't that the video of the guy beating the poop out of the relay? yea I figured they were pretty good, I forgot about the separate high beam bulb but I don't think its that big of a problem.
when you say stay away from plug and play, do the other versions get hardwired to your lights?
sorry for questions...when I do them I just want them done right with little repair or attention needed after the initial install

im really curious about the relay harness myself. i mean what kind of ballast are people running without one? analog? digital? what about people pumping out a lot of power with sound systems in their car? all those factors play a roll and what would most of you recommend? no relay harness or just plug it up and go about your business?
