Tire Advice - Freeway Commuter / Snow Season Tire (06 xB)
Hey,
I just got back from a big snow trip and driving for over 10 hrs with snow chains and my stock wheels on. I'm looking to get some new tires, something that is definitely an all season commuter tire with high thread life (as I use the scion to commute 100 miles a day) and something that would be best in the snow giving the first criteria.
Also, what tire size can I go up to on the stock steelies?
I've searched and saw 205/60/15 and 195/60/15 as wider tire options.
I've also searched the forum and found that GENERAL ALTIMAX HPs might be the tire that I need to run with at 205 to fit my criteria.
Any information is greatly appreciated. Thanks.
**also, of course cost is the third factor

Get these Bridgestone Potenza RE960AS Pole Positions they are rated #1 by tirerack.com. Good for light snow use. if you search with google the only negative comment is their mushy at the cornering limit. Excellent in the rain and dry conditions. It does not snow in san diego, but they are supposed to be OK. If you need a winter tire buy a extra set of rims with winter only tires.
They should last for 40K appox.

When the OE tires wear out I'll go with a 195 60 15".
