Theres a tow loop on the left hand side under the bumper. As far as on the door, maybe you could find a U bolt the same size as the latch loop on the xB, and stick it in the latch on the door. Either that or take off the plastic panel and loop a rope through the metal frame. The plastic panel pops off.

Close the latch (with the hatch open) to make a hole for a bungee or rope.. DO NOT FORGET TO OPEN IT BACK UP BEFORE YOU CLOSE THE HATCH or you will bend the hook where it latches when you try to close it.

To get the latch to reopen you have to unlock the hatch then press the button you'd normally press to open the hatch. (rubber, over the license plate under the cover)

I connected a turnbuckle like this: http://www.hdtvprimer.com/ANTENNAS/turnbuckle.jpg

...to my license plate bolts. It's a $.49 solution that allows me to hook up a bungee and loop it through the latch area. It works, and any scratching of metal on metal happens on the license plate. When I don't need it, I just take it off and throw it in the glovebox.

That's fine as long as you don't care about wrecking your license plate, but I have a custom plate, and I am sure many others on here do as well..

And wouldn't it pull out if the hatch was tugged on too hard? For instance.. going over a big bump?

It's pretty solid, and once it's tightened down, it doesn't really rub. If you were really concerned about scratching, you could wrap it up with a t-shirt and/or duct tape for the ride. It's a $.49 mod, so obviously there's room for improvement, or you can come up with a better solution. Works for me.

Actually, now that I've had a few days to think about this hatch open issue, it's really very dangerous to ride with the hatch open. Because the exhaust is right there, you will pull exhaust into the car, exhaust that contains a great bit of carbon monoxide I would have to add the warning OPEN ALL YOUR WINDOWS if you ride with the rear hatch racked open to avoid suffocating yourself and any passengers.

Good point about wrapping the turnbuckle, though.
