Default To cut or not to cut ?

I am thinking of installing a full slide rag top on my xB2 . Any thoughts? Has anyone done it? Pics?

A guy in our club did a sliding rag in his gen 1 xB. Came out great. If you use a good unit and have the skills...go for it.

Sounds like a big hassle. If you know what you're doing there's nothing to stop you. I'd be worried about water leaking in and weakening the body.

If thats what you want then go for it. Just remember that later on down the line, if you have any problems, there's a chance that company and all it's replacement parts will be gone, esspecially with the economy the way it is right now.

Thats what scares me about doing it! There is no going back once its done. What happens if in 2 years I have trouble and the company is gone!

You gotta pay to play man. I like the look of the huge sliding rag tops. I wouldnt do it myself, because I hate any sort of sunroof thing. But I say go for it. The company going under is a legitimate fear, but you can't see the future, so have fun now.

Avoiding leaks requires a good top and a good install. The structural concern is unfounded for the most part. There is very little significant structure in the center of the roof. The skin provides very little structure and the cross braces removed do little more than support the skin. The roofs structure is is virtually all in the side posts and the outer edges.

I wasn't sure if the middle mattered as much or not.

I don't like the idea of adding any kind of sun roof type thing to a car after it's made, if it was made with it though it's fine. I don't know enough about rag tops like you want though. I just remember always hearing about the old Thunderbirds, I think they're the ones, where the T top would always leak eventually no matter how well they were taken care of, so I'm wondering if a rag top would too, especially aftermarket.

Indeed!! Leaking is the BIG concern. Being in the auto body business I have seen plenty of cars with holes in the roof leaking, factory or otherwise. As a general rule aftermarket installs of any kind are very suspect.

I laugh at your forethought... ha...

Honestly... If I were you, I wouldnt... Too much of a hassle with all the supports that you need to cut and all the leaks that you will incour...

I helped Ivan "trikkonceptz" with his, it looks awesome... but it was a royal PITA to put in...

$1000 installed is a great deal.

If you want to worry about the company going out of business, leaks or whatever, then this is not a good mod. If I had someone near by that 1k would get me a power slide rag top.........
I have a 1968 Triumph TR6c. I still drive it.
