Default Noise when ignition is turned on, but car is not started

While setting the TPMS I noticed a very loud noise of something running under the hood. Just curious as to what that is. I know GM's would have a fuel pump prime noise, but it shut off, the xB noise just kept running as long as the key was in that position.

I know that after a long drive the radiator fans kick on if you turn the key to the on position regardless if the engine is on or not.

Thanks. This is actually after the car was sitting in the garage overnight. I did not check the fans, but it does not sound like a cooling fan, more of a higher ptiched noise.

It's normal. It explains it in the manual.

Haha sorry, I wasn't 100% sure so I didn't want to say, but I *think* it is the pump that regulates pressurization in the gas tank. Don't quote me on that though!

Hehe. Just read, the note says that pump comes on "exactly" 5 hours after the ignition is turned off. Cant find anything else.

It also says to not leave the key in the "ON" position, because the ignition may be damaged. Weird.

its the inverter/electronics for the steering. Id like to know whats the clunck you hear 15 minutes after turning off the engine on the drivers side behind the dashboard.

Yeah, i was like "WTF"!!

Its funny, the manual says to leave the system in ON for a few minutes after resetting the TPMS. Then another part of the manual states to avoid leaving the system in ON for a prolonged time or damage may result.

Its been used on the prius for years and they claim it saves power. I know the xa/xb hp rating was reduced a few hp.

I dont like how you have some resistance turning from lock to lock like twisting the head of a power drill.

I like how my tacoma I can steer it fast and with just my palm from lock to lock.

Good to know its been in a use a bit. I think it saves a little hp and something like 1mpg. I actually like the feel better, and its nice to have one less item dragging the motor down.

Im still amazed how swift this car is on the hwy.

I took my mom shopping this Saturday, 12 stores over 18 miles, lots of steering lock to lock to park and unpark. I just dont like how it wimps out when you near the steering stops.

Yeah, I headed to VA Beach Friday and man, easy to exceed the limits of 64 664, 264 and the HRBT. This car just rolls and I ended with 27.7mpg 300.3 miles at 10.8 gallons.

I travel from Williamsburg to the tip (terminal ave) every day for work, which is about 36 miles one -way. I do 8-10 over, and do some aggressive passive at times, and maintain 28.0+ mpg's.

I like going 70-75, then hit the gas to pass, this car gets to 85-90 in no time.
