So I believe my passenger side front wheel bearing is bad (loud humming noise over 20mph) and I have the add-on extended Platinum warranty to 75k. My car is currently lowered on Teins with aftermarket Monroe struts, plus low offset wheels. Will they try to give me grief at the dealer about modifications when I take it to them tomorrow?

I plan to tell them to see if they can fix it under warranty, and if not take it to a local (trustworthy) mechanic, as I have been screwed by Daytona Toyota before. bviously tho I would much rather have the warranty that cost me over $1000 (and has only 500 miles left) cover it. Any thoughts?[/list]

 

Depends on the dealer. Some are cool about it. Some aren't. No guarantees either way. My local one never gives me crap about aftermarket stuff, but I've heard some stories of the opposite.

I'd suggest don't mention the suspension or wheel changes and just tell them what the problem is. Let them diagnose it without giving hints to what you did and see what happens. Might even turn out to be not the bearing... who knows.

 

if the first dealer gives you a hassle, try another. should be covered under warranty though

 

i had the same problem... my tc is lowered on s-techs and my driver side wheel bearing went bad. i brought it to my dealer and the fixed it no problem. just dont say anything to them about the lowering. I was also told by a local mechanic that even tho i was lowered on springs it would make no difference since springs dont effect the wheel bearing

 

We (the dealership), need to prove that your mods caused the wheel bearing to go bad. More than not, we can't prove it, so it gets covered under warranty.

 

If you still have your stock wheels, toss them on before you bring it in. The only mod that they could argue affects the wheel bearing is the low-offset wheels. So if they don't know you were running those it leave them with basically nothing to try and deny the repair with.

Update: They are covering it, replacing the entire hub assembly. Get to drive a Prius around till they get the parts in on Tuesday, not a bad deal. I wonder if anything else can be replaced before the warranty runs out, haha...

I just had my wheel bearing replaced also. I took it into them with -3 on the rear, lol. They still did it. Of course the bearing was on the front.
