towing is an excellent way to shorten the life of your cars transmission and engine. read the sticker on the B piller, 450lb max load (passenger & cargo).

Yeah, get the one with 6 vs 4 bolts. Just make sure to allow more room for acceleration, merging and braking. Dont try to set any speed or hauling records and leave the interior empty to compensate for the load.

Mine says 850 lbs. max load.

Yea, that's about it with 4-5 passengers.

450 did sound a bit low to me. So with 850 you can have 4 200 lb dudes and a full tank of gas and a toothbrush, before it is overloaded.

My mistake. 850lb still isn't much though.

I got the one from etrailer and it was very simple to install. I've never towed anything, so I can't help there. My hitch is used for my bike rack.

850 is not bad for tong weight. you can easily do 2 thousand trailer weight.

Yeah, easy to install. I havent towed anything either, its used to beef up the rear end, possible future wheelchair carrier or a co workers jet ski.

Good stuff guys. Thanks a lot. I wouldn't do any towing records..it would be a small sailboat for speed and for riding waves

I'd agree that 850lb seems a little low. I already think the gear sounds like it is a little "slow" to change..especially going from forward to back...it used to be a lot tighter. Never really had much heavy stuff in it...

Usually me / wife kiteboarding and/or surfing gear....I think the boat I am looking at is maybe 450lb...so no huge load.

850 lbs. of tongue weight is WAY TOO MUCH for the xB2, and 2000 lbs. of trailer weight is just plain not smart. I'm not trying to hate on you cobb, but that much weight is not safe for the transmission on an incline (at least not the automatic), nor is it safe for the brakes on a decline (or anybody else in front of you). To throw out that kind of statement on an open forum is ignorant at the very least, and potentially VERY DANGEROUS to those that don't understand the physics of weight distribution and might listen to you.

I appreciate your desire to be helpful, but please stay away from topics of which you are guessing at, and have no real knowledge. That kind of advice could seriously hurt somebody.

True that for the xb, I swear my xa had a 200 toung, 2000 trailer rating on the hitch. Id never try that much with that little car, but the xb is beefy.

I already mentioned earlier to add more braking, merging, accelerating when carrying a trailer. In fact if you go to uhaul they say the tower must be 750lb more in weight than the towee http://www.uhaul.com/guide/index.asp...owing-towdolly

I used my scion to pull my cars on a tow dolly with a tow strap. Man that car has some torque. I used it for both my metro and fox.

Just found this post. Looking to get a newer (2nd gen) scion and will probably need a hitch as I dont think what I need to haul will fit inside. I own a graphics/vehicle wrap company and my material is 54" x 8" x 8" and each box is approximately 50lbs. I'll only have 1-4 boxes at a time and was thinking I will need to get a small trailer to go behind the xB. The place I will be hauling from is about an hour away. I will only be hauling a small portion of the time, as I can get the material shipped most of the time. Just wondering if you all think this would be okay to do this? I do not want to damage the frame or anything else on this thing. Or do you think it will fit inside? Haven't been to the dealership yet to get a look at one up close to see how the back seats fold down. Thanks in advance

About 60" from the back of the front seats to the rear hatch, depending on where you like the front seat.
About 39" wide at the narrowest place on the rear floor, between the plastic covers over the shocks.
You'll be fine putting them inside.

won't adding a hitch void your warranty?
