Default General question on shock absorbers

Hi, I'm relatively new to this site. I'm not very mechanically inclined either. I was wondering after talking to one of my friends, is there any detrimental effects to too many shock absorbers on a car? Yes, its kind of random...

lots of things come into condsideration with the shock absorbers, like spring rate, overall vehicle weight, etc, shock absorber valving, etc...
W/o really knowing too much, i would say that adding more (stock) shocks would probly make the ride more stiff, and if you went with more shocks that had valving 2x the size of stock, well that would probly give you a stock feeling ride..
if you have 4 shocks then the weight of the vehicle is going to be absorbed by 4 dampers, if you double the amt of shocks then each shock would be in effect damping 1/8 the weight of the vehicle, with stock valving the would be dampening less force = stiffer ride..

but I am no expert, so dont believe a word i just said..
