Default Rotors and Pads - Which Ones?!?!

Hey guys, I'm planning on getting new Rotors and Pads soon, and am looking for recommendations? I would like to get some drilled and slotted rotors, and get good quality pads to go with them, maybe as a package deal.

There are so many to choose from on eBay, and other online shops, it's hard for me to figure out if I'm looking at quality, or crap. I tried searching the forums, but like i said, so may different choices, i really don't know what to get.

Right now I'm running on the stock factory rotors and pads. (just hit 40K miles and time for a change)

I put Toyota pads on some powerslot rotors. the toyota pads have very very low dust and the power slots cost about as much as OEM rotors..... which my dealer did not have in stock.

I got some squeaking but they stop on a dime still.

I personally like the Power Slot rotors and Axxis Ultimates or Hawk pads. DO NOT GET SLOTTED AND DRILLED ROTORS! The slotted and drilled rotors warp/crack much easier than any other rotor because of the inconsistency in structure and cooling.

trd pads give off hella dust, but they stop great!

i second on not getting slotted at drilled rotors!

i have always been a fan of powerslot rotors, i need to try those out

Sorry to bump this thread, but I have the same exact question as the OP. I'm leaning towards OEM as I can get a pretty decent deal on the rotors and pads from ToyotaPartsCheap.com. According to my VIN#, my pads and shims are already the newer redesigned one. This is what I need:

PAD KIT, DISC BRAKE, FRONT (PAD ONLY)
04465-52210 NCP31 Mark Sumitomo PS558H ($38.39)

DISC, FRONT
43512-52080 NCP31 ($80.87)

Now the pads come in a set of four pieces for sure, but the rotors are priced individually. So if I got all of this stuff from ToyotaPartsCheap.com it would cost $200.13 plus tax, shipping, and miscellaneous items like brake fluid and caliper paint. I'm not even touching the drums so I hope they're still good. Anything else I might be missing or any other suggestions on what to get and where to buy them?

Now I'm looking at aftermarket solutions. Are these any good?

Centric Premium Rotor

Akebono ProACT Ceramic Pads

$156.28 for those items above (including shipping). OEM is gonna cost me $237.65 (including tax and shipping). Is aftermarket better in terms of quality compared to OEM AND cheaper?

the toyota pads are awesome. no dust and very quiet. i got powerslots as stated above. Rotors are expensive for our little cars. make sure your getting a good set. stay away from cross drilled as stated her already. powerslots are a good set of rotors.

What do you want in your pads & rotors? Maximum stopping power or quiet and dust free? Excellent stopping is going to cost you some noise and cleanliness. Actually, a lot of cleanliness. My front wheels are always dirty.

I run the Axxis Ultimates with Goodridge steel brake lines and Superblue brake fluid. I churn up a lot of dust but they brake like nothing I've ever driven before. A little squeeking, less than I expected. I still run the stock rotors and calipers but the rotors were scrubbed when I had the pads and lines installed.

I finished doing my front brakes yesterday, took a few hours since I was unfamiliar with the set up. I ended up getting the Centric Premium rotors and Axxis Deluxe pads (along with brake cleaner, lube, caliper paint, gloves, c-clamp, brake fluid). Total amount spent was just under $200. All the brakes lines were bled (right rear, left rear, right front, left front). So far so good, no squealing or vibrations. The only thing I didn't like was how the rotors are attached - the caliper and wheel basically hold them in. My buddy's Honda has screws that keep the rotor in place. When I get a chance I'll post up some pics (but I still haven't had time to paint the calipers).

you will be happy I have about 83,000 miles on mine Axxis pads and I have been sitting here with Stop-Tech rotors, SS lines, Motul, and new Axxis pads watching them and I am amazed how well they have held up

When putting on new pads, do I need to replace the shims as well? I'm running a Gen1 XB.

my toyota pads didn't come with shims. slap them on, cut or replace the rotors and go.

I'm just lookin at the 04/05 diagram and there's a pair on each side of the pads (4 in total) but I would assume they don't wear, so I wouldn't need a new set. But when I asked for a price for pads at Toyota, they asked me if I wanted shims too, which makes me wonder.

Anyone ever see zinc plated rear drums? I see a guy on ebay has them up once and a while.

Slotted is Ok to use. Brakes will go a bit faster, though.

Just not drilled. Or drilled and slotted.

I have allways been a fan of brembo rotors and axxis pad's had them on my 90 integra so i decided to put some axxis pads on my xb with the stock rotors and man ton's of dust.And as stated slotted are ok just not drilled.
