Best Wheel & Tire Size???
I have used the search and read the info in the FAQ section. I was wanting to get opinions from fellow XB owners as to what wheel size and offset they feel works best. Also the tire size would be great. Please remember that I will have a family of 4 (my wife, daughter, new baby and myself) in here a bunch so I defenitly dont want any rubbing. I also plan on lowering the box as well so that is another factor. Any information would be great!
OH I have owned my XB for 3 days now and I love it!!!!

205x50x15 or 195x55x15
42+ offset
checkout centerlinewheels.com they are having a factory clearance sale. They are made in the USA and are rotary forged wheels. I bought mine for $99 ea. for 15s

I've got 17's running a 215/40 wheels are +40 offset but I've added the onetongarage.com rear spacer shims to give it a +30. Also, I'm dropped 2 inches on GoldLines
I've also got a family of 4 and never have rubbing issues, except for my driveway which is abnormally steeply angled at the curb. As long as I back in at an angle, I'm usually OK. Also, this is the front and/or rear lip scraping the cement, not tires rubbing the wheelwells. I never have any trouble with that.

It depends on the width when you start getting bigger like that. You have to make sure they don't hit the trailing arm on the inside, but you don't want to push them into the fenderwall on the outside either, especially if they are oversized. You may need to roll your fender edge or use camber plates, again, it depends on the wheel. Check the Wheel Fitment thread at the top of this forum for more info.
IMHO, if you are hauling around a family, you'll want to
go 17" so you can keep more rubber between your rims
and the road. I'm running 215/45/17 because I'd hate to
trash my wheels on Chicago pot-holes. I think it also came
out looking pretty good:
(damn) unfortunatly my server is down, so I can't show photos
right now, but I'll post some more later, maybe get off my
**** and put some in my Profile.
Now, having said all that, since 98% of the time it's just
me and my girlfriend in my box, plus maybe a guitar amp
or sub-woofer, I think I could have gone with 215/40/17
but it's unlikely I would have gone with 18"
PLUS, you'll be dropping some gas milage with wider, heavier
wheels. Mine dropped from 33MPG to about 28MPG after
the wheel change-out. I've documented EVERY fill up and
my milage to the tenth of a mile. So I know what I'm talkin'
about.
As for offset, as stated above, it depends on your wheel
width. I went with 17X7 and just stuf with 42 offset for
simplicity sake. I will probably get the OneTonGarage.com
hub spacers to make the rear wheels look more flush fit to
the fender, like the fronts are. For some reason Toyota gave
us weird spacing back there, and I DON"T want to have two
pair of wheels with different offsets. I'd much rather be able
to rotate my tires normally! LOL
I hope that helps out some.

Yes, just the kind of info I am looking for. I would love to see pictures so I have a better idea of the fender well gap and ride height. I hate to loose the gas mileage but something has got to give if you want looks. I have the same problem here with road conditions and that is one reason I am really thinking about 17" rims (more tire). Everyone here (local) keeps saying "Go with 18" or you will be sorry". They keep pushing the fact that the XB is so box like that even 17" rims look small. Another question I have is how was your braking affected? Heavy rims usually hurt the braking. Thanks for your time guys!
I've been researching for some time what kind of wheels to get, what sizes, etc....I decided on a 17" wheel, most probably 17x7 with a 40 offset, and I guess I'll add spacers as needed to suit the look I most desire. As for tire size, I am probably going to ride on 205 or 215/45/17's. I need the extra meat for our pothole ridden roads. I will also be lowering the car with TRD springs as well. It's killing me that I'm doing all this research and buying parts for the car before I actually get it, I just have to be patient...
B-T-B, I'll get back to you with photos as soon as I can.
I think you'd be surprised how well 17" fill the wheel well,
as the photo above with the MagLites shows. I was
considering those rims before I got my Double D rims.
As for breaking...yeah, the added weight made the box feel
wider, heavier, and for sure stops just a bit slower. Honestly,
the ABS has kicked in once or twice, which surprises me,
because I'm a very compitent driver and can usually avoid
the ABS kicking in...now that I think about it, the added
weight is probably the cause.
But I can with all honesty say, I feel just as safe, and have
better traction and handling with the box lowered on 17"X7"
with the GoldLine springs. Mine pretty much looks like
ScionMan's above...but I take better photos

Big Wheels = Heavier and Higher Rotational Inertia
Pros: looks good
Cons: eat gas, wear out suspension component quicker, may hydroplane due to oversized wide tires in rain/snow, ride harder due to shorter sidewall, slower launch due to bigger and usually heavier wheels.

I'm sitting on 17's with 205/40/17 tires. I plan to lower my box in a couple weeks, which will eliminate most of the space between the tire and wheel well, making it look better.
