Default How does the xB handle in the wet?

How does the xB handle at 2400 lbs in heavy rain/water accumilation?
So close to buying one, down to signing papers...
Silver 5-speed, lined up some 17"s this afternoon to go under it.
My daily driver is a Silverado SS, 5400 lbs and fulltime AWD.
Wet weather's not a challange.
The xB's mission in life would be to supplemement the SS.
Knock around town, Houston traffic, beach etc....
Yesterdays downpours, made me think of that...

Thnx...

In addition to the TRAC, (which will only help you get going, not stop or turn) it also comes stardard with ABS and VSC. The VSC is freaking awesome. Knowing how well it handles in snow, I doubt you'll have problems in rain. I have had none yet. The only time I ever, ever noticed anything was when goosing it from a stop making a right turn in a downpour. I felt a little slip, the TRAC light came on, but I went exactly where I steered, no problem.

If you have any doubts, try searching for some snow topics, the xBs are highly praised for traction in the white stuff.

I do realize you are asking about rain and not snow, but if any car can handle this well in the snow, you should be fine with it in the rain.

You might check the following:
https://www.scionlife.com/forums/vie...=snow+handling

There are a ton of topics about the handling if you search.

A lot depends on the rubber you put on em. I'm riding Pirelli tires in New Orleans where it rains a lot; never had a problem.

Hey Nighshift, I live in Houston too. So far I've got over 21k miles on my xB and I've never had any problem driving in the rain...even when I had a 35 mile commute to work!

When I lived in buffalo I saw people like you with your 4x4 trucks stuck in ditches and in awesome accidents because you believe "wet weather is not a challenge".

In reality this is a $15K toy.

I've seen people do some stupid things 'cause they think they have 4W or AWD...
I'm alittle brighter then that, I respect physics...

When I was 8 I used to eat play dough... but just enough so that my mom wouldn't notice.

Seriously, FWD vehicles are well-suited for maintaing traction in wet/snowy conditions because of the fact that the powertrain is placed directly above the drive wheels. Now the goodyears that your scion comes with may not be as advantageous in wet/snowy conditions. I'd recommend you do some research on a tire thats geared towards wet/snow traction, rather than being as cheap as possible without causing liability.

FWD is in no way better/stronger than AWD, but it'll do the job for what you need it to do.

Default Wet weather traction

I have 17's and Toyo Proxes 4 tires. They stick great in an Atlanta downpour.
I have to try real hard to make the car drift on wet roads, and I feel like I'm driving
on rails when the road is dry.

I have Pirelli Pzero Nero MS tires on my xB and they grip slick and water covered roads beautifully. Never feel any sliding or anything like that. It grips as if it was dry.

as good as any other fwd crap . lol sorry I just hate fwd. I'd rather slide around all day in a rwd but that's another story . yes xb's seem to handle pretty good just dont push it too much over the speedlimit on on and off ramps and you should be fine.

Default Heavy downpour

I have 215/18 Kumho 712's. In a heavy downpour the other day at 55-65 mph I had hydroplaning issues because of the light weight.
