Default 205-40-17 on 17x7 with a 40mm Offset- Problems?

I did a search and found two different answers. Im no professional when it comes to rims and tires, so I need advice- Will these rub or overwork my engine? These are the tires that www.wheelguyz.com are supplying with the rims in a package. I just want to make sure Im not going to hurt the engine or any other components.

205-40-17 on 17x7's with a +40mm offset-

Thanks in advance for your help!

Travis-

Oh yeah, I do A LOT of highway traveling-

I read on here that it was better to run a 205-45-17
Any truth in this?

no problems at all. that's probably the most commonly used size of wheel/tire combination. like boxman stated, you can even drop your box with no problems on that setup.

Excellent- Only concerned because I read a post on how the 40 puts added stress on your engine- or "overworks" was the term that I read. I do a lot of highway driving and thats the last thing I want to happen!

No stress All biger wheels do is increase rolling resistance. So you notice a loss of power and mpg. Nothing major. i run the 215/40/r17 due to the side wall being thicker. Thicker sidewall=better ride on the HIGHWAY!!! you can see my box in my profile or i have a post in the general Xb forum. Or pm me

I thought that first number was the section width of the wheel, and that the second number was the height of the sidewall?

they get the second number by dividing something into the width. Also when searching online i used a tire size calculator. and for the Xb 215/40/17's were only 1%off from stock so i went with them

^^No problems with either the fitment, tire, or engine, but you may be happier w/ either the 205/45-17 or 215/40-17, which I used to run. I did mainly freeway driving also, 160 miles round trip daily.

middle number is aspect ratio of the sidewall

Section Height ÷ Section Width = Aspect Ratio

section height = (overall tire diameter - wheel diameter)/2

info was taken from http://www.yokohamatire.com/utcustom.asp but i figured id post some of the equations here
