Default Buying Tires on the WEB...Pitfalls??

I really want to get a set of Yokohama Avid H4S for my xb, but all the local tire lairs here in O town either don't carry or their price is unheard of! The price at TireRack and others is good BUT.... What about service after the fact if I have a problem?
Also, what is a reasonable price to pay to have mounted on my factory rims?
Anone out there with advice, pro or con on web deals on tires?

Walt

Tire Rack = SUPERB Service (aside from the fact they sponsor the site).

Reasonable price, WalMart charges $3.50 to dismount stock/mount new tire. $7.50 for a lifetime balance per wheel.

$44 and you are golden... just make sure the WalMart you use has the ABS plastic head for the tire changer, and not the metal one. The metal one can be used properly and not damage the wheel, but you'd have to be a TOTAL MORON to scratch a wheel with the ABS head.

Tire Rack. They even have a list of tire stores on their website that will mount them for you. You can even have the tires shipped to one these tire stores.

I like discounttiredirect.com. Tire Rack was a pain to deal with. They wouldnt sell me the tires I wanted because they said they wouldnt work on my truck. So I bought them from discount tire direct.

I've bought two sets of tires from Tire Rack, and I recommend them to everybody looking for tires. Their service is great, their salespeople -- especially Roger, our humble moderator -- are extremely knowledgeable and will ensure you get what you need for your car.

As for the installer, I ran into some troulbe with some places not wanting to install new tires that were not purchased at their shop. A quick call to Tire Rack resolved the issue; they just called one of their "authorized installers" and set me up in no time.

Let me close by saying that if good service and getting the job done right costs an extra ten or twenty bucks, spend the money. You can't make compromises with tires because they are such an important part of your personal safety in your car.

Bought my BFG's from Tirerack, had them shipped directly to one of their "approved installers". Great price and great service. Thumbs up from me!
