You just need a decently built friend (read: not scrawny like me) that can hold/compress the spring down a few inches on the front strut while you bolt on the top of the strut assembly. It's pretty easy.

I'm fairly skinny and I have done 2 spring installs without aid. I was surprised at how easy it was.

If you use the tutorial on here it will help a lot. And I would add one thing to the tutorial. When you undo the nuts on top of the struts, the easiest way tp get them off is to jack up the front end and push down on the tires after you have loosened them up.

I just lowered my xb last week with no springs clamps the back was easy the front was a litte hard do to trying to get the nut off the front shocks very tight location! I pushed the front springs down and used 3 zip ties on each side until installed and then cut them and pulled them out! Frist time to lower a xb!! good luck!

using a spring compressor on an xb would be pointless... however i would recommend having an air impact wrench handy

Why?
I guess it would be a little easier, but hand tools are all I needed.

Ditto, :D No need for the spring compressor on the xB, unless you are going back to stock.

I've done more than a handful and have no problems doing installs w/o a spring compressor, on xBs and xAs.

People who don't use spring compressors aren't around long enough to hear what happens to people who don't use spring compressors.

Seriously... I understand your points about working on the Xb, since I've installed springs myself. However, I ALWAYS use compressors because I have them and I've seen what happens to those who don't use them.

well if ya do an xa/xb it will never be needed. you can swear up and down that spring compressors are needed but that's bull it's all dependant upon the car.

i think everyone. check the tech section on how to do regular springs and struts or coil overs.

all you need is a buddy and some beer and pizza

Hmm, come August, I'll have been doing spring installs on xAs and xBs w/o a spring compressor. Its a different story on the Matices I've done though. xAs and xBs are the only cars I've worked on that I didn't need to use a spring comnpressor on for installs.
