Default Side Skirt Protection - xB

It's been difficult to keep my side skirts free of scuffs on the xB. You know, you have dirt on your shoes or whatever and you pivot in and out of the car, it's hard to avoid the side skirts even though I try to. The door sill plastic isn't very big and my shoe size is much wider. It's not much to step on anyway so I end up scuffing the paint on the side and have to buff them out etc.

I'm curious to know if anyone has done any mods to their side skirts or applique of some kind to protect this area.

I take my shoes off when I get in the car like Mr Miagi. Actually I personally never have a problem with it. I usually step in and step out and don't even touch the side skirt. I haven't seen anything done with the sideskirt to combat what you are talking about.

I don't ever seem to hit it either, BUT MY WIFE SURE DOES!!! The xB is her daily driver (I have the xA), and I'm always cleaning scuff marks off of her yellow side skirts. She didn't even realize she was doing it, but since I pointed it out to her, she's promised to try and stop. Meanwhile, I try to keep it waxed.

No, yeah I totally hear that. Not sure what I'm doing when I do this. I play Paintball and sometimes have clods and such from dirt etc. I think I'm being careful but, ya' know, accidents happen.

I thought about the clear stuff. That's a good suggestion. Maybe a textured surface, not quite grip tape, I think that would be tacky looking and clear would get scratched and wouldn't be durable enough either.

Keep the good ideas coming people!

Hmmm....I don't think big feet is always the problem. My wife is only 5' tall and she has tiny feet (lady's size 5 1/2). Maybe in her case, it's because she's short.

I have this problem, too.
No scuffs on driver side, because I am the only one who drives my car.
But on passenger side, my friend gave me scuffs.
I am gonna try to buff it out with some wax.
I even had to replace the door sill enhancement on passenger side, because my friend left scuffs. Have you noticed how sensitive these aluminum sills are?
Even though scion website claims it's scratch resistent, it's not.
Now, I have a layer of scotch tapes on my door sill enhancements.

Okay, so I was talking with a friend about this...

Hear me out here... It helps to be looking at your xB when you're reading this, or go look to see what I'm talking about right after. Here's my idea...

What if you removed the side skirts, mask off the lower section and the area where the gasket meets the body. You're only exposing a stripe that goes front to back on the top of the entire skirt (the flat part) and then let unmasked 'stripe' go a little bit over the edge. Still with me?

No, then get this, that unmasked area... RHINO-LINE IT! Yup. Check it out. You'll see exactly what I'm talking about. Keep your lines clean and definitely mask off the areas you don't want lined, like the cap for where the bolts connect in etc.

Anyone know about Rhinoliner stuff? Will this work? I think the black rhino material could go really well with the door pillars etc.

Laterz.

Have you read the article about carbon fiber? It's on the Home page of scionlife.
This article has a guy who owns a xB with carbon-fiber skirts.
I am not sure what carbon-fiber skirts exactly are, but they might fit to side skirts.
I went to http://absdynamics.com and they had a pic of carbon-fiber skirts.
If carbon fiber is scratch resistent, there wouldn't be any more scuffs on side skirts.

The website I mentioned above has a pic of carbon-fiber side skirts on xB.
They look nice. I have a skating boots that are made out of carbon fiber, and they are very strong. I fell many times on them and no scratches.
I think if I get carbon-fiber side skirts for my xB, there wouldn't be any more scuffs.
Does anybody know if carbon fiber car parts are scratch resistent?

No, CF will scratch. It is covered with a clear layer of resin that will scratch just like paint. If you're gonna spend the money on that skirt kit, you're gonna be even more worried about scratching it than the OEM skirts, IMO.

I think doing all the lower skirts in black rhinoliner would give the protection you need and also give the car that roadster look, like a Miata. That or getting the 3M Clear Bra stuff applied in the danger zone.
