Default These taillights legal???

I have not found any info on these hellix taillights which is why I am posting. I originally wanted the clear Hellix taillights though here in Cali I would be getting pulled over all the time. Now someone said that the JDM Taillights below are street legal. Now Hellix has released similar one's so these should technically should be street legal, right?

Like I said i didn't find any info on them. I have looked for some to buy but no luck, I just stumbled upon the pic. So hopefully someone here know's something about these.

Thanx for any info in advance.

if you mount two red reflex reflectors at least 15" high and use DOT approved bulbs that meet SAE standards, you should be golden. at least that's what i gather from texas law; i am not sure of the specifics in cali..

3rd World Approved. As long as your tails indicates your stopping/turning, then you should be fine.

better to add a reflector to the back of the car. now you know why the RX-330 has red reflectors on the bumper. that car is definately legal.

Default ...DOT TAILLIGHTS...

My inspector says that even if the taillights meet and/or exceed all DOT specs, if
DOT is not on the side of the lens it will fail. So I might need to change out my tails for a day in October or find a better inspector (one that I didn't ask about this issue).
It all depends on who you know, if they care and if they know. Good luck. Did you save your stock tails just in case? I did.

If it doesn't say DOT approved on it you technically can get in trouble for it. My tails are not approved. My stocks are sitting on a shelf in my spare bedroom just in case i have to deal with one cop having a bad day

They may not technically be "DOT" legal, but you'll never get pulled over for them.

http://www.chp.ca.gov/html/streetlegal.html
Illegal equipment most often cited by the CHP:
Tail lights other than red (24600 VC).
Illegal brake lights. Brake lights on vehicles newer than 1979 must be red (24603 VC). (Vehicles older than 1979 may be red or yellow.)
Lack of rear reflectors. Two red reflectors are required on the rear of cars and trucks (24607 VC).
Incorrect color of turn signal. It must be white or yellow to the front, red or yellow to the rear (24953 VC).
Tail lights that incorporate a bulb with a red tint or coating. In general, custom tail lights that incorporate a clear outer shell and red inner lens are legal (24011 VC). If they don't incorporate reflectors, they must be added to the vehicle (24607 VC).

so you need a DOT/SAE stamped amber bulb for the turn signal, or rig your tail to blink. The actual tail bulb cannot be red, as there is no red bulb that is approved. Don't forget, you NEED red reflectors mounted somewhere in the rear as well.

i dont know if a cop can write you a "fix it" ticket if your tail light assembly doesnt actually have a DOT/SAE stamp on it. As long as your bulbs meet the standards, they should emit the required amount of light. I didn't see anything in the CA VC that specifically mentioned that taillight assemblies need to be stamped, although it specifically mentions supplemental stoplamps and some trailer equipment must meet federal standards under 49 CFR.
It is handy to keep a copy of your local regulations regarding the modifications you wish to do: California Vehicle Code: Rear Lighting Equipment

I remember reading that the reflector has to be visible
from a 120 degrees of the rear of the car.

I saw a photo of a (real) bB with just a thin line of reflective
tape around the tail light. I think that's my option.

in texas, i believe the requirement specifically states that you need "reflex reflectors." i am not exactly sure what that means, but after some more googling, i think it means that the reflectors need to be molded, not tape.
i got a couple 3" red circular reflectors from walmart with a dot/sae stamp on them and sprayed the mortal kombat logo on them. they are currently stuck on that raised area under my tails with that double sided foamy tape stuff.

helix lights DO NOT light up very bright at all. you can barely see the brake lights or anything during the day. when i follow kevin (blue05xb) to his bro's house to work on my car and when we went to the cherry hill NRG meet the only way i could tell he was on the brakes was his 3rd brakelight. turn signals forget about it.

I've heard that a lot. And it is *almost* a deterrent for me.

I planned on augmenting the lights with a much more powerfull
3rd brake light.

Always thinking I am...
