Might i refer you here?
https://www.scionlife.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=348

Btw the tire sizes listed are not always the most accurate sizes so run them thru the following wheel tire calculator first.

BTW that wouldn't happen to be a 5spd would it

I would think it depends on the offset of the wheel.

Would it be possible for you to not type in all CAPS? It is perceived as yelling...
Thanks,

A 40 series is "thicker" than a 35 series but not any "wider"

a 5% difference in w/h ratio is not going to make a huge difference in the sidewall "bulge" so I forsee no problems, other than the fact that they are going to be taller than stock size so you will lose some acceleration and be travelling faster than the speedo says.

I'm "assuming" you will be using a 225/40R18 and not a 235.

If so the tread part of the tire will be 1.57" wider , call it 2" in the middle max.
However it will be +1.35" in height, leading to a speedometer error of 2% slow
Ie if when you are doing 60 miles per hour the speedo will read about 56mph

for an actual speed of 70mph the speedo will read 66.

Something to keep in mind, you will be right at the 4-5 mph over that it takes to get "popped" if you are running the "right" speed on the speedo.

a 225/35r18 is only 1/2 taller, so the speedo stays accurate (most speedos are optimistic by 1-2 mph generally at 70 so for all purposes there is no error)
ie at 70mph the speedo should read 69/70

If you want 18"s then get the right size tire, if you want the thicker sidewall then get 17"s

Just my 2 cents

BTW I really really am jealous. Our delear got allocated 2 automatics instead of a 5spd for us, so every day it looks less and less likely that we will get a rs1 5spd unless I go to another area of the country like SET. GST is not getting nearly enough rs1's considering they have Texas, Louisiana, Misssissippi, Arkansas, and Oklahoma. Texas is a big state and 13 -25 5 spds for the whole region is a joke!
My wife is really really ____ed after waiting 6 weeks since they went on sale here and we still don't even know if the dealer can get one,
