Here is my dilemma. I would love to add a roof rack to my new BOP xB for convenience but I hate to think of ruining the look of the car and making it look like an old man mobile (even though I am not a kid I like think like one!). So the question is are there any cool looking roof racks out there for the xB instead of the standard black yakima rack?

they all look the same, there are no different looking ones. There is the yakima Rack that can be bolted down to your roof top. But that would require drilling through the roof.

 

The Factory Scion Yakima Rack isn't a bolt on peice right? you can remove it after long trips? i was thinking about picking it up but i don't want a bolt on rack.

 

yes it's removeable but say goodbye to nice paint. ska ratch. lol

 

I have the Yakima "factory" rack. I haven't scratched anything yet and I'm not sure why scratching would be a problem. However, you will need to purchase a fairing since the factory unit doesn't come with one. Without the fairing, the wind noise will drive you insane.

 

the paint on these cars is paper thin and scratches very easily. if you car isnt perfect clean when you take the rack on and off or all the dirst will ruin yer paint.

 

I recomend have some clear bra on theroof, where the roof rack foot pads go. Helps save the paint :D

 

I have the Yakima. Intial setup is a little pain, but after that it is easy to put on and take off. I worry about the paint when using them too, so I just make sure the pad area is clean before install. Its a nice way to carry things that don't fit inside. The one downside is having to buy all the accessories like bike, surf, snow, etc. good luck.

I looked around and couldn't find one I liked in my price range so I took the one off my Suburban, cut it down and bolted it on. I've carried a fully loaded cargo carrier on it on a 2000 mile trip with no problems.

 

I'd like to add a bolt-on roof rack to my xB as well, something that will carry 8' surfboards that my kids use. I think what I'll do is pay more attention to vehicles I see that have roof racks on them, and see if getting one of those to work on my xB is feasible. There are a LOT of vehicles out there with factory roof racks, and I'm sure one of them will be exactly what I'm looking for, and will look good as well.

 

I use regular Yakima racks with q towers. Everything came around a little over 2 bills. I might take pics tomorrow, or when I finally change my wheels.
