Webasto (http://www.webasto-us.com/press/en/a...oofs_3641.html) Makes a sunroof that has two huge panes that covers all passenger space called the Grandview. The only drawback, is the sunshade it comes with is a semi-solid mesh. So sunlight still penetrates thru it. Bad if you live in a hot area like me.

Why would you want such a thing? Maybe you should have bought a tour bus with the glass top already made in.

I don't think you are going to find one. First, there's virtually no market for it so no one's going to take the time. Second, the roof is part of the structure of the car. A lot of care and engineering would have to be done to ensure the car doesn't twist apart and/or destroy the glass. Finally, it would be a nightmare to keep clean. All the hand and face prints of people looking in at you. Don't think it's that funny. I've come out of a store to find hand prints on my window from somebody looking in.

I say go to your nearest custom shop and tell them you want the Texas sized sunroof.

I second the idea of it seriously weakening the structure. Cant go too big.

sure you can, just add a roll cage first, then chop the top off, then get a piece of lexan made to fit over the top of the car, and bam, full glass top. but you wont beable to roll down your windows, and youll have to slide out from under the glass. . . unless you hinge it somehow so it lifts up and the doors open. . .

getting a glass roof begs for hail storms....

theres no premade thing for the scion like that. do custom. by the look of your xB you have the ability to get big things done. so find a local customizing shop and glass shop, and figure out how it can be done. i would be afraid of not on the structure you screw up, but even if it does hold up, ill be interested to see what you look like if you ever get in a crash. having an all glass roof is straight dangerous. sunroofs are okay because theyre small and usually not directly over the driver. best of luck

The roof panel is part of the unibody, messing around with it will seriously mess up the structural integrity of your car. The added weight would also wreak havoc on the car's already-poor acceleration, seriouly jack your gas mileage, and be really unsafe.

If you want to do something crazy, I suggest a ceiling-mounted mirror with fiber-optic stars in it. You can get them in various sizes from limo supply stores.

As for the LEDs, check a limo supply store. They're easy to find on google.

jeez just think in the event (god forbid) you get in an accident with the totally glass roof...picture the effect of the roof shattering and gazzillion pieces of glass cutting you to shreds literaly!!! dont do it MAN! aside from the structural integrity just imagine its still glass over your head! sure you could do the whole shatter proof glass but still the picture isnt very pretty in the worse case scenerio

You anti-glass roof people are aware the tC has an all-glass roof, yes?

Its not any more of a hail storm magnet that having a car with a windshield or a back window is. And many tCs have been wrecked now, not one has had the roof shatter. A few people have had the moveable part of the front lip of the sunroof shatter, but that's about it.

Nonetheless, I'd think twice about doing it in a car that wasn't designed for it. The tC has very strong (and wide) a and b pillars, and doesn't need its glass roof to stay in one piece to keep from collapsing in a rollover. The xB does not have such substantial pillars, and probably needs the unibody roof for strength.

That said, there are a few xB's rolling with convertible tops, and those don't have strength either. So to each his own.

no, the tC doesnt have an All glass roof.

not on has shattered?
http://www.wreckedscions.com/gallery/SciontC?page=1
first page, middle of the pictures.... shattered.

as for convert, yes they do. show me an xB that doesnt have a bar across the top between the B-pillars. anyone ive seen has it.
i feel bad for their half-ast job if they dont. if i am wrong, please show me a picture and correct me.

as for the tC, it was designed for sunroofs, not a "TOTAL glass top". those are two totally different things. you cant compare apples and oranges here.

If you look at the tC from outside, all you see is glass going the whole way from the hood to the trunk. To me, that is an all glass top. Apparently you and I have different things in mind.

umm... maybe the windows were smashed after it went to the junkyard?

Looks like the front sunroof on that tC survived, it was just the back window and the rear moonroof that didn't make it. Must have been rear-ended by a semi going 60...

thats true. im imagining an all glass roof. yes the tC is heavily laden with glass on the roof, but its still not all glass roof.

and i agree it would have to be hit hard to shatter on a tC, but its entirely possible. some people have hit bumps and had theirs shatter. which really makes me wonder sometimes. thousands of engieering hours went into getting the roof made to hold the glass. the xB isnt made that way. thats just the way it is. do the interior with mirrors and lights, but i would say glass roof is ridiculous.

the tc's top is actually 2 glass panels and has a bar running underneath them in the middle that you see from inside the car. if you don't mind a bar running through the middle, then you're good to go- just replace the metal roof with glass and then make the body bars in the ceiling look pretty.

however, if you want a straight, clear, uninterrupted front-to-back glass roof....

good luck. that's like trying to replace the seatbelts with shoelaces. impractical and unsafe.

thats why i said lexan, polycarbonate. Its alot lighter, and in the event of an accident, most will hold up and wont shatter and cut you up
