It sure looks nice, but apparently there is some type of teflon coating, or something, on the plastic. It came out great, but it peeled off like your girlfriend's foundation mask...

I went ahead and peeled the vinyl dye off. I'm in the process of repainting it with DupliColor Import Auto Paint (Honda - Milano Red)... Then I'm gonna handpaint the the Toyota logo/vvt-i with testors grey enamel...

 

Sorry to hear about that but for what it's worth that looked pretty good.

im usually against ghetto DIY spray painting of car part just because people can't resist modding up their cars, so they paint everything, but the red you put on there actually contrasts nicely with the white.

 

you may need to use engine paint or high temp paint. may also have to sand. i think i saw a DIY on this and they sanded it first, i'm not sure. it does really look good in red against the white of your car. good mod

 

nice results, too bad it didn't stick...

maybe if you prepped the engine cover with some light sanding would the vinyl dye "adhere" better? That was a really great result, nice even and bold color

 

use plasti-prep it should be at any good paint store (auto) make sure you clean well with alchol maby a light sanding ten clean again and spray on teh plasti prep let that sit for a few then yse the vinal dye

when i worked at my first caraudio shop thats waht we used to dye the dash kits with

also dont use the rattle cans spend teh buck more and get the actule can of dye like paint and buy a small sprayer and a compressor -- if you have one if not barrow one

the results are far better

i did mine in chameleon paint. you just need to make sure that is is scuffed up good. I did my toyota logo the hard way and masked it off (took like 2 hrs.) Randy told me the best way to do it (and the way he did his) is to use a Silver Sharpie Marker! I saw it and it looks reeeeaaallyy good! heres a pic of mine!

 

You can make your own silver ink that never comes off using mineral spirits, silver rustoleum brush-on paint, and small amounts of motor oil.

 

I'm repainting with some DupliColor Import Auto Paint (Milano Red...OMG, a Honda color!). It looks like it'll take 1.5 cans of the paint to finish the cover. I also returned the gray enamel and bought silver sharpies! =D I'll take pics when it's done...

 

I finished the engine cover. I ended up using all of the paint of two small cans of the DupliColor Import Auto Paint. The silver sharpies really worked well, thanks for the tip. After recoating with the sharpies about 2-3 times, it was done... I'll take pics of it later tomorrow...

sucks about the engine cover. it came out really good.

 

the whole peeling thing happened to me too. i degreased the cover to get any oil or dirt off and dried it. my friend told me that all i had to do was paint it. BIG MISTAKE. it peeled off like nothing. then i had to sand it down and put a light layer of spray adhesive on it and paint. it came out perfect. you HAVE to use engine enamel or high temp paint

 

sorry guess you didn't know. the cool thing to do at car shows to hold up your hood, is to use your stock spring to hold it.
