Default Important for Easystreet strut owners.

Well, I have figured out the rattling problem on my own. I remember the difficulty tightning the strut bolt when I installed the kits 5 months ago. It was hard to do cuz The bolt and shaft was sunk into the strut plate. Figuring it was tight, I reassembled the car and called it a day. So I have since removed the front struts and behold, that was the problem. The nut was a bit loose. Scratching my head on how to tighten them down, I put my trusty best spent $250 to work( Matco electric impact gun). Problem solvedf or now. No more rattles!!! I thought I would share this info so that the rest of us rattling shock owners can rest assured it's prolly only that. So try fixing that before anyone ships off struts. I guess be really really sure everyting is torqued good. Now we'll see how long it lasts.

this is good news, now i won't have to wait for ES to "fix" the problem before i buy em :D

One question though, is there any other way to tighten this without having an impact gun? I could always use a friends but can't i just use an extension for a 1/2" drive? Or does it have to be torqued down pretty tight?

When Tighnting Air Struts Make sure the Car is Completly Dumped and Clamp The Strut itself so it wont spin and then tighen then nut at top

My cavalier was the same way i would get the clunking noises but wont I did that no problems at all

So to do this it's you have to use an impact gun?

impact makes it easier if you don't have any other means. I didn't tighten mine with the car dropped. I can't get a full drop anyway, Look at the avatar<---. Anyway I may have not compleely sovled the rattling for now, but at least they sound like they are gonns fall off now. Sciondrgn, Thanks for that tidbit of info. That had to be the best advice I've seen yet and of all the times we have complained about it, no one ever offerd that info. I'll have to throw the stockers on and try tighteing some more.

I get the clunk too. I thought it may have been the air fitting.

no pic of the bolt itself, but it's the one on the main sshock shaft. in the engine bay. I ran my air lines(half inch) along the brake lines and fastened them to the subframe under the engine.

Contitech bags. It's always good to remove them from time to time for preventive maintanence and inspection. I don't want a surprise blowout by anymeans. My car is not driveable at full drop. Liabilty is good with proper care. How will the xB look on 15's? Leave your stock steelies on and find out!

no i mean with the 15" i currently have on . I only want bags for being lowered when i'm parked, and at shows, maybe i'll drive with it at it's lowest setting if i'm on a smoth road that i know, or in town etc. But mainly i want to drive at a decent height so i can go over speedbumps etc.

Do you inspect your front ES struts too? I haven't heard of anyone having the fronts blow. I'll probably bag the rear first, then save up for the fronts. I would prolly just leave the air in the rear bags full time so it doesn't look like i have bags. I plan on having the valves and tank outside, and going to try to have the compressor in the trunk area or under the driver seat. If i don't like it there then it goes underneath as well . Anyone ever put there's in the engine bay?

Here's the trick with doing only one end of the car. Better not have any leaks AT ALL. Or you'll look funny driving around with the car sagging. For what it costs, it's better to first plan on where you want everything in the car and then buy what you need for the setup to work. just install the whole deal. It's easier that way and you won't have to go back into the install to add the other end of the car. Trust me. I have pulled of the system twice fixing leaks and it's still not quite rigth. I fix a few and generate more. It's crazy and I have been trying teflon and plumbing goop together. That has been the best combo yet.

if you used the stock nut, its a different thread pitch. its metric... 13mm 1.25 i think. the es strut is 1/2" 20. i used the right nuts to begin with and never had rattles.
