Yakima roof rack
Hey guys,
I'm thinking of putting a Yakima roof rack system on my Polar White xA. I'm probably going to start off with some Q Towers, 48" crossbars, and a 38" fairing. I'll probably add a Loadwarrior later down the line (goes for $280 alone). What do you guys think?
I'll be moving into a new apartment (a mile away from the one I'm in now) in July, so I'll be sure to use it then. I don't have any other immediate uses, but I think it'd be good to have just in case I need it.
Thanks

They make good stuff. It's always helpful to have. I haven't adapted mine for the xB yet, it's still set up for the Grand Caravan. I have some old skool towers, not quite as slick as the qtowers now, but should still work. A slight chance of some rubbing so I gotta get that resolved. Anyway, once you have the rack and stuff, you can move it to future cars, I mean Scions...

Sorry I just had too...
Anyways.. I think it would look good on an xA, on the xB it makes it look like a mini-van... Somehow I think the xA can pull it off better (one of my friends has a jetta, and it looks good on his car)
So these things are removable right. How do they stick on? I wanted to get one for snowboarding season but didn't want to keep it on all year. Also, does it damage the paint? (if it is removable)
Its a clamping system designed to wedge itself, so to speak, on the top edges of the roof. It does not hurt the paint, I own one and it has not let me down yet. Its a smart buy for an active outdoors person.....
The Yakima's have Q-towers that are clamped. They can be removed. Make sure you buy those "Q-loks" or whatever they are called. I'm thinking of slamming my Yakima rack from my old Saab. Except I need proper Q-towers and the proper cross bar. Then I may go with a long cargo basket. Then add 4-Hella Off road lights powered by batteries to the front of the rack...like a Mini-Landcruiser
. Seriously though, it is expensive
. Get a fairing (wind deflector). W/o it, the noise will be much noisier, then again, u can always turn up the volume.
I like the color-matched luggage box, but IMO the shape is all wrong for the xB. The box is all curves and the xB, well..., isn't.
I like the look of this box:

But unfortunately it is 7.5 feet long, too long for the xB. I wonder if we can convince them to make a "short" version for us?

I don't own an xb...yet. Thinking of getting one to replace the car I have now it. It's a KIA spectra with 135,00 miles and so far I,ve spent nothing on the car for repairs. But how long can my luck hold out. I know someday this car will just implode.
One thing I have to have is a roof mounted rack. But can anyone tell me the spacing between the load bars on the rack? I can use the stock towers and load bars, but will have to build custom trays to carry some of my bikes. One of the bikes is a tandem recumbent trike with a 85" wheelbase. Yea, I said a 85" wheelbase... (http://www.organicengines.com/Troika/index.htm) I take the seats off when its on top of the car now to help with the drag, and to keep the bugs off of them.

The problem with the Q Towers is they go in the doorjams, so you are limited by the door design. Toybox1's rack has the rails mounted on the roof, allowing you to extend the distance between the crossbars. With his Black Box, the rails blend right in.
So, I could put the front rack at the front edge of the door, and the rear as far back as I can above the rear door. Could I get 48" spread between the bars? That should work out well.
I would have to bend up a long wheel tray that would sit between two single bike mounts, It would look something like this from the top:

Would be even better if I could mount it on the back, so I dont have to reach over the hood when loading it.
