Default OFFSET.. What it is?

I know is probably stupid but what does the offset means in the wheels?
Ive read about 25 offset, 45offset etc...but what does that number represents?

The lower/higher the offset, what does it means?

Please enlighten me cause i dont have a clue..

thanks

A simple answer could suffice just as well as a condescending pointing to the search option.

Offset is the distance in millimeters that the mounting surface of the wheel is from center. A positive offset is closer to the outside of the wheel. A negative offset is closer to the inside of the wheel.

Another term you may here is "backspacing." This is similar, but not the same. Backspacing is the distance from the back of the wheel to the mounting surface. One thing to keep in mind when talking about wheels is that they are actually wider than what the specifications call them. For instance an 8" wheel is actually 9" when measured from outside of lip, to outside of lip.

Hope that helps.

No actually, Ned was right. People need to utilize the search that is there. Ned was even nice enough to post a link. I thought he did well.

Since you have the info, this is locked
