Default Racing stripes on the hood to cover scratch ! Crazy idea ?

Hi...I got a scratch on the hood (due to flying debri) and my box is only 3 weeks old, I really don't want to repaint the whole hood.

I was thinking to go to a body shop and have some racing stripes on the right side of the hood, not to large, just enough to cover the scratch and give a nice look. My car is TCM and I don't want the stripe to stand out so much, therefore I'm thinking in using a different shade of silver on it.

Did anybody see a xB with stripes on the hood ? Any pictures or suggestions ?

Do you think it's gonna look OK ?

Thanks for any inputs.

I've seen stripes on boxes. most look really good. check out Hawaiianbuilt, his looks beautiful - they really set the car off. Randode has done some, I'm sure he can hook you up.

I've seen 'em centered, offset, narrow, fat, outlined... it comes down to the over all composition of the car. Randode has some silver vinyl that's darker and the graphics he's done for TCM's really look good.

do some stripes and couple them w/ the big old scion logo above the side lip that Randy's got a pick of.

I have a carbon fiber hood with Sparco hood pins. The set is yours if you want it. $250 + S&H.

e-mail me for details. ctruss53@yahoo.com

First go to a body shop and find out how much it will cost to fix the scratch, then decide on what to do. You might end up paying more for the stripes or C/F hood.

That's no crazier than us getting the rear bumper applique to cover a scratch we put on the top of the bumper.

This is what my wifes car used to look like. It was vinyl. We pulled it off now. I would think that a good body shop would be able to fix a scratch for not to much money.

Just paint the hood. An xB is not an american muscle car.

what does that have to do with it? some countries used racing stripes to mark which side the driver was on. thats where off set came from.

he didn't ask about a carbon hood. he stated he didn't want to repaint the hood. he asked about stripes.

what good is it to suggest something completely different and knock the guys topic in the process? the purpose of the forums is to help people. if someone asks about a particular subject, it's best to help them in that specific arena. so if you can't say something nice about his solution of choice - racing stripes - them don't chime in.

Thanks everybody.....by the way, the stripes on the picture looks really good, I'll do both, quote to fix the scratch and to add the stripes. I'll let you know the differences by the end of this week.

Alternate to the stripes is another old musclecar derivitive... flat black - like the old Cuda & Dusters with the whole hood, or the Challengers in the center of the hood only, then pinstripe it where the flat meets the shiney, think that would look cool too.

Flat side stripes look sweet too:

I hope that comment wasn't directed at me. Yes, I suggested my CF hood, but no I didn't put him down for wanting stripes. I honestly think stripes are a bad idea, but if he wants them, thats fine with me. I was simply offering a low cost solution.

Default I decided to go with the stripes....pin stripes in copper

Hi...I went to a body shop and quote both... the stripes and the paint job...$50.00 versus $300.00 to repaint the hood.

It's a new hood and I had already applied a 3M clear film protection to avoid rock dings in the front of the hood ) This is the 2nd car that I do that and it works great in case you are interested.

Anyway, decided to go with the stripes, double pin stripes in a dark silver / copper color, which in my opinion looks great and it covered the scratch perfectly. The stripes are thin (I wanted it kind of discreet) and go from the bottom of the bumper to the end of the hood.

I'll try to find out how to post pictures here and I'll show it to you.

Thanks for all the tips and suggestions.
