Default Opinions of hatch

Okay, I stated in another post i have the full authentic jdm veilside kit and the jdm 1st gen bB bumpers are on their way to me as I speak. I don't believe in doing something one step at a time, when I do it, i do it completely and make sure to get it right. So as part of the conversion, I'm sure some of you know that the veilside has a license plate hole on the rear bumper. I want to change the hatch but want to know what the best option would be, there is 1. JDM Hatch, my only concern with this is price since the bumpers cost enough by themselves and I have yet to price it.. 2. Shave the hatch, once again curious about the cost since i'm sure I'll then need an actuator or popper of some type to open it. 3. I saw someone with a 1st gen style carbon fiber hatch on here the other day, but I would have it painted. I'm just curious as to what everyone would suggest, as for what would be the best for price wise, and for looks.

If you are looking for a performance side of things, get the Cf hatch since you'll loose a little weight. Shaving isn't too expensive, probably cheaper than buying a new hatch. Congrats on the purchases, Veilside is .

Yeah, I'm liking the idea of the carbon fiber performance wise, just have to pay a shop for paint. But I can't seem to find the hatch I saw before that was the 1st gen style, And I'm really thinking the jdm one would rip me a new one. Thanks for the VS props!

I believe mybox still sells jdm products, theres a few people on here that sell tons of jdm stuff, including that hatch. Ask around, you'll get some good deals. My CF hood i didn't paint, but on BOP it looks fine that way. I think CF on white looks fine too, but some perfer painting anyway. Guess you are one of them. haha

If you shave the hatch you can simply relocate the release handle. The Juice'd Box down at Toyota of Des Moines has a fab kit and relocated the release to the license plate hole in the rear bumper. It works pretty well.

A popper would be your second option.

I have ponderd this to. I got a bumber a few months ago that had the same thing. I havn't tried this yet, but I am sure it will work. Take the electronic hach release that is located above the licens plate out and run it to the inside of the bottom bumper, just take out the wireing (try to remeber what went to what) and add aditional wire so you can run it down the side and rewire it in it's new location. I have toyed with it and it will work just waiting to be able to take my xB to a shop so I can have the licens plate location filled in and repainted when I get the money. It you try it let me know how well it worked. Or if you try something ells I would allso like to know (might do it myself).

First off you have a lip kit so you only have half of a liscence plate in your lip. Second, I had the original as well but I just shaved the lip because you do realize the lips need to be extended to fit on your car if it is an original and why cut it up the middle through the liscence and mold in extra textures you don't need or cut around the plate and have to mold more pieces in general just so you have the liscence plate the same size cuz if you just shaved it in the process and had a regular US xB with a lip, it would be so much easier/cheaper but I know you don't want that look. Third, if you're going through the process, Veilside isn't a POS tuner looking kit so don't disrespect it by throwing on some gaudy carbon fiber pieces just to make it more JDM or easier on yourself as a matter of fact. Put the lip on, shave the trunk ($500), keep it single colored, and put on the correct quad exhaust that it deserves and rock it like noone else can...just simple and clean. Rock some Veilside rims and you are my motha freakn hero.

LOL, First off, If you read my post you would have read that I have 1st GEN bB UPPER FRONT AND REAR BUMPERS as well as the kit so no molding is going to be necessary I have the FULL license plate area, And if I do the carbon fiber hatch, I stated above I would be painting it. I like my car's clean and simple so no vinyls or stuff like that, maybe a blue pearl coat on top of the white to give it a sheen but thats it. I would love to stick the fabulous dual exhaust on it ,

but it's only an axle back, so I'm probably going with the borla dual cat back, unless any of you guys have some ideas. And I'd kill for some veilside rims, but my pockets aren't deep, so it'll be awhile

the bumpers will fit the car, the lip kit is made for 1st Gen bB's in japan where the license plate is on the bumper, so they will bolt on perfectly to the jdm bumpers I ordered. The kit won't fit the 2nd Gen bumpers which is what we have on our xbs because besides the license plate on the rear the upper bumper pieces for 1st GEN bB's aren't as long top to bottom as our 2nd Gen, as well the front upper bumper for the 1st gen doesn't stick out as far. So basically, it just boils down to our stock bumpers won't fit the kit without a lot of work, but with jdm 1st gen bumpers it'll bolt right on.

The only thing about painting CF parts from what Ive heard is that most CF parts seem to be wavy and intended to be more race than show, so if you paint a wavy CF part, you could end up with a wavy painted CF part. In other words you might have to pay more to bodywork the CF before paint if you do it that way.

Still, I would be interested in the CF 1st gen hatch, who sells them?

I saw a post on the main scionlife page a couple of weeks ago, someone had one for sale and I think they said it was from VIS but I don't remember. I'll try a search and if I pull anything up I'll post the link to the thread.
