Default Candy tails...question

I looked at the pics in the tech section regarding the redout of the tail lights and have a questions:

1) Has anyone taken out the red "blank" reflector that is attached to the housing of the tails before putting the candied lens back on? It seems most people leave it in, but I was hoping for a better color match if I take it out. I read that someone put back the red cap that sits over the brake light and it leaves an odd dark spot, and I was thinking it would be the same for the dead reflector.

Got any pics minus the inner reflector?

2) Any legal issues with going over the silver paint on the inner housing with black spray paint? Im in Cali.

Cheers!

You can take it out but there is only one problem with doing that. If your bulb is white and your reflector is removed and the light passes through the painted part then your gonna have a "pinkish" taillight (red + white = pink). I had the EXACT same problem. As a matter of fact the color wasn't even between both tails. Like one was lighter than the other!

Solution? I bought a red 7443 LED buld replacement. Now my tails are DEEP red when lit and you can't see the bulb because it is clear when not lit.

Go to: http://superlumination.com and look around there at the 7443 selection. I liked my LEDS but they also have red 7443 as well if you want to stay with the bulb.

The reflector I am talking about has no bulb behind it. I did not mean the cover that sits over the brake light bulb. From the top of the light down, it goes:

1-Brake light
2- Turn sig
3- blank (no bulb behind it)
4- reverse

Cheers

Ahh! I got ya.

Answer to question #2. Technically, if you screw around with ANY light that is DOT licensed then you can get called on it (by inspectors) because then the light would be considered modified. I don't think cops would give you any problems but vehicle inspectors is a whole other story. Of course that depends on who is looking at your car amd if they care or not.

So you dont like the way it looks?

Seems to me it would look better than leaving it in.

I was thinking about hitting that area in the housing with some grey primer to minimize reflestion.

Do you have any pics?

Sweet.

We dont have inspectors here, so I am not concerned with that.

Hell, I got HIDS on my Xb and if they knew that then I wouldn't be able to get an inspection sticker. The first guy that ever inspected my box didn't even know what a Scion even was!!! 'Round here if on inspector fails you ...simply go to another one till you pass. However, emissions testing is a totally different matter.
