Long-Term Test: 2005 Scion tC
Summing Up
One descriptive term seemed to crop up again and again that could be used to articulate our feelings for the tC: "for the money." Any comment about the car should be followed by that qualifying term. For example, "it handles pretty well — for the money." Or, "it's a good-looking car — for the money." We feel that Scion should be credited for hitting the market just right on this hatchback coupe: it's neither overbuilt nor underequipped. It's just right for the youth market and would be a great choice for anyone who wants a little excitement — yet relies on the dependability and economical qualities of a Toyota.
In all the important ways the tC passed muster with our editors. Its handling was well regarded; acceleration was appreciated; styling was admired. It seemed to provide an option for someone desiring the flair of a coupe without breaking the bank. Furthermore, the look of the car grew on us as we began to see more of them on the road, in different colors with different options. It would be called yet another successful launch in the Scion lineup.

WTF? I've had a couple tankfulls that were in the 18 to 19 range, but that was some, um, very spirited driving and a lot of stop and go. What did they do, leave the car idling in a parking lot overnight?
I've also hit 30 to 31 mpg in road trips - set the cruise at 75 and leave it there for hours at a time...

I usually get about 21-22 MPG, but that's true city driving. that 0-60 of 8.7 seconds is flat-out BS, whether it's for the auto or not. Hell, my Corolla CE could go 0-60 in 8.7 seconds.
"it handles well, for the money".....I put a g-meter in the car. I pulled .92 lateral g's without loosing traction. 225/40-18 Sumitomo HTR+, Tein S-Techs (not even real suspension), and struttower bar. For the money?!?! Yeah even for a low grade Porsche.
Same thing styling...I LOVE my tC. Looks pretty exotic for a liftback.
Anyhow...everyone has a point and an opinion and they aren't wrong, just different
