The rims are 7'' wide rims and the car is on stock springs. You guys think I can put 205/50-17 's on them without major rubbing?

I know it's way oversized and is like +5% larger so the speedometer will be off. I'm running 17'' rims and I want to try getting a big sidewall to see if it softens the ride some.

 

you can put up to a 225/30/20 w/o major rubbing on stock springs

you'll be fine

205/50-17 Diameter Difference from stock: 5.31% Circumference: 78.75"
225/30-20 Diameter Difference from stock: 6.21% Circumference: 79.51"

So the 20'' Rim is about 1% larger diameter and adds almost an inch to the circumference and it also is atleast and inch wider too.

I'm about to order them so I hope that they work. My torque is probably going to go in the crapper to since the circumference is soo large and the tires are heavier.

 

I'm running 215/45/17 on the back with a 2 inch drop, no rubbing. I'd like to know
what tire you're running now. My 3yr old started complaining that the xb was to bouncy.For a while I concentrated only on suspension mods. If you're trying to better
the ride, I suggest monroe sensa trac shocks and sruts. They have been discussed
before, check suspension forums. Well worth the $, the monroes are stricly for a soft ride. My child no longer complains. I have the monroes with tanabe springs, it's made
a great difference. Better than stock, stock shocks are tokico kind of stiff. For the ride monroes.

 

Unless you are trying to fill up the fender gap w/o lowering, spend the money on monroes. Cost $250.00 for about everything.

for shocks, rear installation is very easy - front is a little harder .. but read a tech on it..its pretty straight forward

 

Sorry forgot to mention, our suspension is the same as echo.So if you go this route
order for the echo. You can find the #s on the forum. Fronts not so hard, you'll need a spring compressor. A tip, jack the whole front end up to get the weight off of it. If you want you can mark the struts L/R before removal, then take them to you're local shop and have them change you're springs for you. For a small fee.

So it looks like no one has actually tried this size 205/50-17 on the xB and the reason is probably because a thinner but taller tire could affect cornering and the fact that the tire is 5.31% larger than stock. But if the above quote is true, then on a stock xB, they should fit since they are smaller and thinner than the 225/30-20's.

So now, I've moved from just getting new tires, to tentitavely getting the following. My goals are to get a smoother ride, and if I can, lower my car a little without it rubbing badly. I don't mind rolling the corners.

1. Monroe Sensatrac rear shocks (#5987) and front struts (#71575)
2. H-tech springs or other springs that you guys recommended here that can lower it a little and help give a smoother ride.
3. 205/50-17 tires if I can, but I may need to lower them to 205/45-17's or stick with 215/45-17.
4. Also, my front wheels have a camber problem and the inside corners of the tires already wear out far too quickly, so what is the best way to correct this? My rims are 17x7 and use a +42 offset.

Any help or new opinions?

 

My current setup is 205/40/17 front & 215/45/17 rear. Monroe sensa tracs with
tanabe df210 springs 2 inch drop. Take a look at goldline springs, supposed to be
one of the soft springs.
