Default Is anyone running coilover sleeves on their xB?

I'm just curious how they like them, and if they are safe. The wife will never let me spend $900 on Tiens.

Yeah, I read that too, and I was a bit hesitant to buy coilovers, but I know if I installed a length of all thread and secured it well, the spring could not possibly leave the cup base.

Yeah, i just didnt want to take a chance of having a possible problem(not that you cant have a problem with anything you put in) especially since it move' s the family around(wife and kid). So i stuck with normal springs, until i can afford some Teins.

I had a focus hatch with the eibach ground control sleeve coils. I had that mother dumped and for the life of me, I couldn't get the springs to want to stay. If I lifted my car for any reason, i would need someone back there to make sure they were seated before the car was dropped. Also, some of the roads here in phoenix tend to make the car rise a little, not catch air, but sort of float. I went over such a road and dropped both my rear springs and just layed the rear end out. Result, ripped off my full exhaust and needed to replace my bumper and rear a-arms.

Hope this helps.

Wow! Yeah, the roads around here are pretty bad to say the least. I think I'll just wait untill I can affoard an air setup. Thanks.

Not tryin to sway you from coilovers, just trying to get people away from the cheap coilover road.

yeah... get some som tein h or s tech reg. lowering springs til it's time for air.

but even with air, if you slam it, if that bag blows or an airline or just anything is installed improperly, you have a chance of your bumper eating concrete at 70mph.

I've got a 2 year old and I would kill myself if some mod I did to my car hurt him or worse. If I were single, I'd get rid of the OEM steering wheel for billet, airbag for tvs, rear for speaker setup. But, alas, I'm married with a son and they come first. I'll get some wheels, tires, mild lowering springs and the rest aesthetics.

OK... So I am not very familiar with coil-overs. I can look at the pictures below and pick out the differences. The Tein use double adjusters to lock themselves into place. The Ground Control use a set screw. The adjustment cups (perch) appear to be slightly taller on the Tein than on the Ground Control. The Ground Control also looks to have a higher spring rate.

So I guess my question is... where does the failure on the Ground Control occur? Is it at the upper spring perch or at the bottom? Can anyone attribute the failure of the Ground Control units to a particular design difference?

I'm just asking for my own curiosity. I don't plan on purchasing coil overs. The design of the two systems just seemed very similar, and I would like to know why some of you folks more familiar with coil overs though the Ground Control option was more prone to failure.
