Default My paint sucks

I think the paint on my 06 xB sucks.I love the color TCM but damn this stuff scratches too easy. The clear coat on this thing must only be one coat.Has anyone else had a problem with their paint?? I was thinking of taking it in to see what it would cost to have a few more coats of clear put on to help protect the paint.

It will cost a lot to do it right...and frankly, I'm not sure it can be done right. I don't know if a clear can be applied over another clear that is already cured.

You could re-clear the whole car. but you minus well re-paint it while your at it! You would have to R&I (remove and install) every door handle, mirror, trim piece, bumper, light ect. To do it right you also have to revove the back three windows so you could clear underneath them.( it cost about $150 to R&I each piece of glass) You cant just spray the car down as is with clear and call it good.

and beyond that- IT DOES NOT MATTER HOW MANY LAYERS OF CLEAR YOU HAVE ON YOUR CAR. It will still chip, scratch and whatever else the stock paint does. INFACT, the more layers of clear that you add, the higher chance of orange peel and crows feet will occur. I work at a body shop, I have seen toyotas, scions Infiniti's and even a ferrari's with as many or more paint chips than toyotas and scions.

the only thing you can add is a clear bra or a bra to the front, and a good coat of wax every few months

end of rant......

Word to Unfocused.

If you dislike your paint job, write a letter to the EPA. Many hardeners and types of paint have been classified as unsafe for the environment now and are therefore unavailable. This can tend to make modern paints "soft" and easy to chip and scratch.

Damn hippies ruining my life!

If I had only known how soft and crappy this paint was I surely would have gotten polar white or thunder cloud instead of my beloved BCP.
