Default Air suspension Install

In the next couple of weeks I will be installing an air suspension kit on my xB. I know several threads exist on the subject, however, I will be in the unique position to film the process and photograph the steps.

I would love to place this info on Scionlife to help my fellow junkies. How do I go about doing this ? Do I need to PM the post to a moderator? What are the steps? I can put the whole process together, I'm asking about where to post it so it will be viewed and used by the most people.

Once my questions have been answered feel free to lock or eliminate this post

Oh wow, this couldn't have happened at a better time. All the parts for my air ride should be in this week or next and then I'm going to attempt my first air ride install. I can't wait to see your DIY on this.

This DIY should be easy and furthermore I'll have a dvd version as backup. The Pics version for the site will come first, followed by a video which I'll offer to anyone who wants one .. cost will be next to nothing, because I do not do this for the money, I'd rather make sure you guys are safe on the road.

I think it's safe to say I'd like one of the videos - depending on how long it takes to get it made. I don't know how much longer I can hold off on my install. I'm getting anxious LOL

Storm, not knowing your time line. PM me with an address. What I can do for you is send you the raw footage for your own knowledge, but it may be 2 weeks because I too am currently waiting for the complete setup to arrive.

Storm... sorry I haven't had a chance to get back to you. Were you able to get all of your fittings ordered, or do you still need that information?

Randode,

I asked in another thread, but...

What suspension are you running?

Are you still going to run the 215/35/18s?

What kind of clearance work and relocating are you having to do front and rear?

Being that the wife drives her xB every day I haven't had the opportunity to get under the car and really examine the suspension, etc. It would be great to get some insight on what you are having to do before I eventually jump in and start modifying hers.

trikkonceptz: I'll PM you my address, thanks!

RTon20s: I have not ordered my fittings yet. I got ahold of the resident expert at gaugemagazine's online store and sent him a diagram of how my layout will more than likely be and he said he'd fix me up with whatever fittings I need. He seems really knowledgeable and willing to help, so I'll see what he comes up with. I think you can disregard for now, and thanks for the help you have given me thus far.

double convoluted bag struts in the front, lots and lots of sheetmetal work to get it to lay. havent started the back yet.
it will lay on the wheels and tires I have, or on 20's if I decide to go that way.

Sounds good. Which double convoluted strut bags are you using? Did you spring for Air Runner? Or are you giving Airlift (Fabricator kit), Chassis Tech or another company a shot?

And what do you consider “lots of sheetmetal work?” Is it simply cutting out the inner fenders and fabricating new ones, or is it more extensive? Are you running into any problems with the driveshafts, or any of the engine pulleys/accessories?

I hope you don’t think I am being too nosey. I am going to have to get into this with the wife’s xB eventually, I just can’t right now. If you have any pics of what you have done so far I would love to see them. Cutting out fenderwells and such doesn’t phase me a bit. Heck, my Dakota is laid so hard, I can’t even fit inner fenderwells in the front. I guess how strong a stomach my wife has for this stuff in a couple months.

i'm using Chassis Tech stuff since I'm getting a great deal on it.
I really dont want to get into specifics about whats involved until its done, but it IS involved.

stupid question for you, I'm new to the aire ride scene so don't flame me but do you remove your springs and replace them with the airbags or do you use the springs and the bags go where the shocks/struts are ?

and if you keep the springs, will the stock ones work or should you use lowering springs?

I'm new to this too but I have learned plenty of info about bags from reading this forum. The springs are completely replaced with the air bag air, the rear shock stays in place unless you want to exchange it with a shorter one.

The front strut is also completely replaced with a after market air strut, cylinder, etc...

Thats cool Randode. I can wait until it is finished. If you get some in progress and/or finished pix I would love to see them. Good luck with the install, I can't wait to see it finished.

Thanks spider .. I will puting 2 together simultaneously, one for the suspension and one for a complete digital gauge replacement for the xB. The application is custom, but I can at least demonstrate where to tap into various things to make aftermarket gauges work ..

Thanks again.
