Default 18's with 45 series rubbers

I currently have hte Enkie 18's with 225/35/18 rubber bands on the car and am wanting to go up to 225/45/18's to get a better ride. Has anyone done this?? PICS???? And yes I know it will affect my speedo by 5mph but I can live with that.

Its the stock tire size on the upper line Enkei 18" wheel package from the factory. SO it is what it is. Just wondering if anyone else got tired of feeling a pebble under the tires and upped the sidewall for comfort.

do 225 40, just about anything more than that rubs like hell, and the 40's will sometimes rub on hard turns.

I got 17's with 215/45/17's and can't fit my finger between the rear sideskirt and the tread. 18's in that size will surely rub. Have them mount one up and you will see.

If you want to loose the ability of feeling every rock you drive over. Drop down to 17"ers. Look like 18's but ride like 15's

A 225/35/18 is far from grossly oversized. In fact, it is well within spec. Larger than the USDM tire size and smaller than the JDM tire size. It fits in nicely and works well with wheels 7.5" wide and wider.

A 225/45/18 however is quite a bit of overkill. You are looking at almost a 26" diameter compared to a max. of just under 24.5" for the stock JDM tires.

What kind of suspension do you have under the car? Have you tried swapping out your rear shocks yet? How wide are your stock wheels? If you have narrow 18s (7.5" wide or less) you can try switching to a 215/40/18. If you have 8" wide or wider wheels you can give a 235/35/18 a shot. I think either one would be a better option than jumping up to a 45 series.

And for the record, my wife rolls on a 2" Tanabe drop with 215/35/18 and has no complaints about the ride.

You know what. I have been being legally blonde.....marriage to one has rubbed off I see....I have 215 width not 225. So its 215/35/18 on there now. My suspension is stock. My tires are the "stock" upgraded 18's from the factory. The main reason for wanting to go to 45 series is the ride quality and ability to hit a unforseen pothole and not have to buy a new rim and a little more comfort. Here in Nor FL the roads are ridiculous, its like riding on a rollercoaster thats 20 years old.

I rolled with same size tires on my 18's with no drop for a few months. the ride is horrible...a 45 series just seems like to much... I switched to a 16 and it rides SO much better....

My recommendation would be to jump into either a 225/35/18 (24.2" diameter) or a 215/40/18 (24.77" diameter). The 225/35 will be a little wider, and won't give provide as much sidewall, but they will be closer to stock diameter (within spec.). The 215 will offer a little more protection, but will be outside of the factory tire diameter spec.

You will probably have more options available in a 225/35 than a 215/40, but pricing will probably be about the same. Good luck.

comfort is overrated. and i knew i wasnt crazy . man 225/45 would be huge. as stated above if you want to mess up the speedo and rub every now and again and take away from accelleration gi'd go with the 215/40/18.

if it isn't comfy try some 16's or 15's.

pay to play. it's all about compromise.

Yeah, 225/45 are huge. Almost 26" huge. But you said that 225/35/18 were "grossly oversized." Those are just over 24" in diameter. And they are just over 1/4" taller than the "standard" 215/35/18.

The 225/35/18 work great on 7.5"-9" wide wheels. I've even considered switching over to those once my wife wears out the 215/35s.

And while comfort may be over rated, it all depends on what you consider comfort. My wife is perfectly comfortable on DF210s with 215/35/18s. I even offered to swap out the rear shocks with Monroes and she said no. She liked the ride and handling just the way it was. Then again, there are those who think the ride on the stock suspension and balloon tires is too rough.

Then we are never gonna make you happy here. ;-O I have done some more reserch on other forums. I think I will just go with the 215/40/18 and deal with it. That way its only a 2.3 mph difference on the speedo and hopefully it rides better.

the 215/40/18 is your best choice imo.

Default can't have it both ways

I myself have 215/40z/18's and it fits well and That is pushing it. Unfortunately that is the price you pay by having a bigger tire. The more tire you have, the more ground you are gonna feel. now at 215 I barely clear 225 you will hit. now if you want a better ride then do what my brother did and drop down to 16".

I know what you mean. I'm running 215 35r 18's and I swear I can feel the manufacturers name on the road reflectors when I roll over them.
