TOKYO (XFN-ASIA) - Toyota Motor Corp will launch a Lexus luxury sports car in Japan, the US and Europe in 2009 to enhance the brand's image, the Nihon Keizai Shimbun reported without citing sources.
The two-seater coupe will sell for more than 15 mln yen (about $131,500), and will likely be Toyota's most expensive. It will eclipse the Lexus LS, which is expected to sell for roughly 10 mln yen in Japan after its release in September.
The report said the Lexus vehicle will be based on the LF-A concept car, which Toyota exhibited at the 2005 Detroit motor show. It will be powered by a newly developed 5-liter V-10 engine and equipped with technologies and new materials that Toyota has developed through Formula One racing.

not too sound pessimistic, but as far as the 130k+ price, this car has an uphill battle...
proven cars such as the 911 turbo, NSX, Aston Martin, Corvette Z06, BMW M6, upcoming GT-R, etc.. are going for about as much if not less, if anything this will have to appeal to a very specific customer

Hard to say... there are MANY times the number of cars over $100,000 than there were a decade ago. As a flagship, low-volume model this will get a LOT of attention for Lexus and if the car can live up to the typical Lexus perfection it might just be worth the dough.
I'm already wondering if I will be able to afford one in a couple years. I can always dream.

This car was anounced well before the next generation NSX. If anything, Toyota forced Honda into doing a new NSX becasue they were not planning on doing one after the end on current generation production.
What the honda did do, was guarantee that this car keeps its V10 engine

NXS is a nice car, but by no means is it a supercar.
I truly hope Toyota doesn't allow the GT to fall into "that" catagory.
I'm guessing with a $100K+ price tag its going to be beyond the premium "sports car", and hopefully into the Elite SuperCars domain

Well the honda nsx v10 is honda's answer to enter supercar terriory, so in reality the nsx will become a supercar and this lexus/toyota will be a supercar as well..At least from the looks of it.
I cant wait to see the final design/specs of both cars.
