Default How long do your 17's or 18's last?

Most of these 17" and 18" tires seem to have low treadwear with high prices. How long do they last for y'all?

MY first set of 18's did not even last me a year....when i went to get some more i asked the guys there and they said you have to rotate them every time you change your oil...so i did and they are lasting longer but they still are dipping on me so they are bumpy and make a lot of noise while driving

go with a H grade tire cause they last longer, nankang is a good brand with cheap prices. you can find a set of 4 on ebay for 300 or less

nankang is no where near good by any means of measure.

^ agreed, I would have put nankang one of the lowest on the list. I would recommend going with kumho or sumitomo for a low end tire.

Kumho is the "best" of all the cheap brands out there. Stay away from brands like Wanli, Sumitomo and Nankang. When you buy these tires you get one of two things. Either you get crazy short tread life despite the tires rating, or you get a cheap knock off of a more well known tire. And the cheap knock off tires do not perform near as well and have excessive road noise.

And again, I'll back Hotbox05 on the Ecsta 711 recommendation. I run 205/40/16s on my Prelude and they are a decent "bargain" tire. Especially when you pick them up from Tirerack when they are on clearance like he and I did.

If you want to step up to something nicer, I highly recommend the Nitto 555. I absolutely love the 245/35/20s I have on my Dakota. And the tread lasted surprisingly longer than I thought it would. I have also heard good things about the Neogens. Especially if you plan on running camber.

Would 19's or 20's be safe to have as a daily driver? I commute 30 miles to work each way...just curious.

not to hijack the thread or anything...

Being a commuter I would stick to 18s. I commute about 100 miles a day round trip. I drive the wife's xB that is lowered 2" on 215/35/18s every once in a while. I would have no reservations about driving it every day.

Jumping up to a 19 will limit your clearance as well as throwing off your speedometer and odometer.

i bought the factory TRD 18's with the perrelli pzero nero and i gotta say with about 6 yrs in the tire business that they are the very best example of "you get what you pay for"
i love these things
on a bagged xb with virginia roads and ONLY rotating iv got 25k on these and they still look new
i havent even balanced them and they just keep goin

dont get me wrong i like the kumho and wish they still made the BFG EURO T/A

the BFG rocked (195/50/15)

Nice, thanks you two for the input...18's sound good then, hahaha, but the thing is..i wanna maybe bag my box too...i dunno if 18's are big enough to get 'the look' when bagged, i'd want something to FILL the hole, ya know? lol

im running BFG g-force sport KDW.. pretty pricey tire. they're holding on pretty good.. they seem to wear pretty good too.. i work at Discount Tires.. so im not too worried about how fast i go through tires.. but a good tire with a good tread last would be like a BFG g-force sport.. not that pricey but good treatwear.. also great in Wet weather.. especiallly here in Florida. with all the rain and shiet.. other than that.. Kuhmo is pretty decent either the 711 or new AST are pretty good and pretty cheap price too

Depending on how you choose to bag it, 18s will be just fine. There is not a single "kit" on the market that will allow you to lay all the way out on 18s. Heck, I think you would have to have low profile tires on 15s to be anywhere close to laying out with the available kits.

People have gone as large as 20s with bags, and it seems to work out ok. But to get "the look" 18s will usually do. And you have the added benefit of not throwing your speedometer or odometer off.

what's funny is mosty people with those tires quote them lasting a very short amount of time, and i for one know theyre heavy , and VERY expensive.
