Durst Takes Second at ATCO, Rado Debuts new tC
TORRANCE, Calif., Aug. 2, 2006
Leslie Durst-Armendariz continued her impressive sophomore Scion Racing campaign with a runner-up finish at the Number One Parts, Incorporated (NOPI) Drag Racing Association (NDRA) series at Atco Raceway in New Jersey over the past weekend.
Durst-Armendariz drove the Horizon Motorsports All Motor tC to her second finals appearance of her past three races. Durst-Armendariz started her weekend by earning the number one qualifying position with an e.t. of 9.79 seconds at 138.44 mph, a personal best. As the number one qualifier she earned a bye in the first round of eliminations and ran a 9.94 e.t. at 137.90 mph on her solo run. In the second round of eliminations, Durst-Armendariz defeated Scott Kelly to advance to the finals. Durst-Armendariz finally succumbed to Norris Prayoonto in the finals.
Fellow Scion Racing driver Christian Rado made a successful debut in his World Racing Pro Outlaw FWD tC on Saturday. Rado’s weekend began with a very respectable number four qualifying pass of 8.90 e.t. at 159.97 mph. Despite bogging heavily at the starting line, Rado’s first elimination race was a success as he defeated Jimmy Jones with an e.t of 10.59 at 153.54 mph. Rado was unable to race in the semifinals due to mechanical issues.
Rado’s 2006 tC features a modified 3RZ-FE Toyota four-cylinder engine with a Garrett GT4788 turbocharger that is expected to produce over 1,500 horsepower. The tC features a Liberty Equalizer four-speed transmission, Weismann drive, Mark Williams nine-inch rear end and axles, a mechanical fuel pump with 8 x 1600 cc methanol Bosch injectors, a Tin Works custom intake aluminum manifold, a MoTeC CDI-8 ignition box, a MoTeC M880 engine management system, and custom Lamb front and rear suspension components and carbon front and rear brakes. The tC rides on Mickey Thompson front tires, Goodyear rear tires and Weld Racing wheels.
