Discount Tire Damaged My Wheels! (FINAL UPDATE!)
Alright so a little while back I took off my wheels to install my springs and decided that since they were off i would clean them real good. Well me and my dad noticed that the back of the wheels look like they have been scrapped to hell. I never noticed this becuase I hadent taken off the wheels before. 3 of the wheels are scrapped bad and the last one if perfect! Now I now Discount did the damage because they are the only ones who have done the balance and rotations on them since they are free cuz i bought them there. I dont have pics so I cant show u all them but they dont look good in the back. I figured they wouldnt think i would have noticed it since i never see the backside of them so they didnt do anything about it.
What I wanted to know from you all is how should i go about dealing with this from Discount? i figured since they did it they would have to replace the wheels for me. Has anyone else been in this situation before? Let me know guys!

I don't see why they shouldn't replace them. It shouldn't matter if it is on the back of the rims on the bottom of the car, they still scratched them to hell, from what I read.
Are the wheels scratched or has material been ground off? If the latter it might have been done by the manufacturere to make the wheels balanced correctly. If it's scratched then I'm guessing you'll have a hard time proving it was like that all along if you've had the wheels mounted on the car for a while. I doubt DT will just say, "Oh sure, if you say we did it. Here's new wheels."
Sorry about that rogcjms. However, I think you should at least go and talk to them.
I had 2 incidents with scratched wheels before at Discout Tire. The first one about 4 years ago, when I purchased wheels and tires from them. They scratch the wheels at the time they put the wheels on my car. The very next day I went back and told/show the scratches and they ordered a new set of wheels.
The second was just last week. I purchased a set of Motegi wheels for my Box and at the time of put the wheels on my car, the scratched around the mounting holes. It was kinda late and they where closing the store for the day, but when I checked my wheels the very next day and saw the scratches, called them and went to the same store, talk to them and showed them the scratches. They told me they will order a new set. I'm still waiting for their phone call. The set is supposed to be here soon.
I think at least you should go an talk to them, but they might say they didn't do it. In my case, both incidents were noticed right away.
Sorry man.

i will talk to them tomorow and see what they say. i will also take pics so u all can see what im talking about. i do not think it was for balancing purposes cuz 3 of the 4 are like that. it looks like when they had mounted them, theyre machine just grinding the hell out of the outter rim in the back. i will update this tomorow.
sorry to hear, just try to give them a call. never hurts to try and you never know what they will say. hopefully works out for you. good luck and keep us posted for sure! i've ordered tires from discount direct and it went well. i would say flawless. but that's another story. hehe...
hmm.. you say that DT did rotate your tires??? if so how many times?? and how bad is the damage you say 3 are scrapped all away around ...is it an even scrape or a bunch of rough cuts??
reason i ask is.. last spring i was goin to lend my rims (had them off for the winter) to a friend for a show... we both have xBs... i'm on s-techs he was on tanabes (i think) put the rears on... he goes to back out turn the car around so we can do the fronts... we hear a scraping sound coming from the rear driver... he backs up a bit more just so we can ID where the noise is coming from..
we verify its rear driver tire.. jack the car up take the wheel off... and on the back edge all around is a fresh new scrape... and a nice new curly peice of rim hanging off the frame of his car....
turns out that on the frame of his car there was some sort of access hole or whatever from when the frame was made... had an excessive/unfinished lip on it that happend to reach out far enough to scrape just that one rim. wasnt on the passenger side nor my car... he fixed it by taking a dremel to the frame and ground it down no more scraping..
just some odd random protrusion that was on his car.. never noticed between his aftermarket rims and stock rims... but once put my 17x7 modconcepts on... it just happend to rub. differnt specs i guess
anyways. that may be the cause as well... if you look at the rear tire assembly w/tire off you should see the hole im talking about on the frame

Where are they damaged? Is it just around the the rear lip or inside the barrel of the
wheel? Some wheels will rub the lower trailing arm on the rear suspension if the
offset is too high. But you would have heard the noise if that was the case. Post up
some pic's please so we can see what your talking about.

well i havent been able to talk to them at D.T. Im gonna try tomorow and i will take pics tomorow to show u all what im talking about. I never did hear anything scraping when they were on. When i bought them they checked out the computer and made sure the wheels and tires were a perfect match for the xB. I will have an update tomorow.
is the scratches on the back of the hub.. as say..where the hub is bolted on the drum or disk? cause usually when u drive around they brake dust will spread and combining with water u get rust.. and it may be just rust that builds up.. well idk.. i work for discount tires in orlando, fl and i never heard of the case where either the balancer or so would scratch the wheel..which DTC did u go to?
Hey guys, i'm a Porsche mechanic and i see rims scraped up on the inside all the time. Its from automatic car washes. It is completely possible that some mongaloid did it while mounting the tire but i don't think it would look like hamburger, just scratches. I could be completely wrong, just throwing in my $.02.
well i finally took my box in for a balance and rotation and i showed them the markings on 2 of the wheels and they found what had happened to them. They actually were rubbing against part of the inside wheel well. They showed me exactly where it looked like it was hitting and said that it took off the paint on the back lip of the rims. I asked them if they test fitted them when they first installed them and they said they may have test fitted the passenger side and never saw the problem since the passenger side didnt have the problem. So thats basically what caused it and told me it shouldnt be a problem anymore since it already rubbed enough...
i dont remember. I know they looked up my xB and they ordered the offset that was made for mine I believe, and they said they might have test fitted the passenger side (even though I dont think so). but they told me it was only the drivers side. The passenger side is perfect...
