Team Scion Takes Win at Englishtown

It was a wet weekend for Scion Racing at the Old Bridge Township Raceway Park in Englishtown, New Jersey but Brad Personett and his Titan tC were able to take home a win at the Toyo Tires National Hot Rod Association (NHRA) Fall Nationals, Sep. 30 and Oct. 1.
Personett and the Titan Motorsports tC continued their pursuit of the PRO RWD championship as number one qualifier with passes of 6.428 seconds at 219.33 mph, 6.464 seconds at 218.05 mph and 6.449 seconds at 218.58 mph on Saturday. As the number one qualifier he had a bye run in the first round on Sunday and faced his Titan teammate Gary White in the semifinals. The Titan tC ran a 6.426 e.t. at 218.72 mph to a win against the Titan Celica’s 6.580 e.t. at 211.39 mph. Personett won the final with a 6.685 e.t. at 185.84 mph against Matt Scranton and his Toyota Solara which ran a 6.746 e.t. at 210.84 mph.
Fellow Scion Racing driver Leslie Durst-Armendariz, in her Horizon Motorsports tC, was the number three qualifier in the All Motor class with a pass of 10.110 seconds at 139.86 mph. Durst-Armendariz made it to the semifinals with a 10.579 e.t. at 136.57 mph against Thomas Borgia's 12.437 e.t. In the semifinals she had difficulty getting the tC into second gear and had an e.t. of 12.121 seconds that was trumped by Norris Prayoonto's 9.666 e.t.
Kenny Tran continued to show improvement in his Q-Nitto Scion tC by reducing his time in each of the three qualifying rounds and qualifying for fifth in the Hot Rod class. He had passes of 9.532 seconds at 136.25 mph; 9.020 seconds at 150.03 mph; and in third round qualifying, his first eight-second pass, 8.998 seconds at 145.63 mph. Tran made it into the semifinals and had a first round e.t. of 8.665 seconds at 165.25 mph while his opponent Stephane Beauregard broke at the line. Tran faced the eventual winner Stephanie Eggum in the semifinals. His Q-Nitto Scion tC made its best ever pass with 8.606 seconds at 164.21 mph but was unable to beat Eggum’s 7.974 seconds at 182.23 mph.
Christian Rado drove the WORLD Racing tC to its first seven-second pass at an NHRA event with a 7.895 e.t. at 173.54 mph and qualified for fourth in the Pro FWD competition. Rado faced off against Bryan Jimenez and his Chevy Cobalt in the first round and ran a 7.901 e.t. at 172.62 mph, but lost by .0404 seconds to Jimenez' 7.762 e.t. at 180.81 mph.
