Default tC Suspesion

I was at my local dealer yesterday, while they were installing my stereo, he told me that the tC had the most advanced suspension that Toyota has used since the IS 300. Has anyone else heard this? I don't see why he would feed me a line of BS since I had already bought the car.

most advanced? i guess for this class car, yes.. since the corolla still has a rear-beam axle.. i think.. this is double wishbone rear and it has camber adjustments.. I've looked at it.. and it looks a lot more "beefy" than my civic's double wishbone rear.. makes the civic look cheap in comparison.. toyota (scion) knew that people were going to lower it (TRD lowering springs?) and screw up the camber..so they put in the adjustments.. very cool..

talking with my dealer, they just got back from a ride-drive in dearborn, michigan (at ford's proving ground, guess anyone can rent that track) with some indy car drivers riding shotgun with the tc's.. they were saying that the rear suspension is from the celica but TRD (toyota racing development) worked on that and the brakes..but the front is still mcpherson struts.. nothing fancy.. but IMO they tuned it right.. feels great!!

.... it's better than corolla's for sure since i test drove both of tC and corolla at the same day. i guess the dealer just trying to make a point that toyota did spent quite some time to work on the suspension, which means it's going to be good.

Now, in order to lower the tC will springs suffice? Or will the shocks etc.. need to be replaced also?

Thanks, ibiza

tC is based off of a Japanese car called the Avensis. tC has the engine from the 4 cylinder camry/solara, the brakes of the Celica, and the rest of it's underpinnings are from the Avensis. However the body of the tC is unique only to our market, Japan does not have a tC. I guess no JDM parts for tC owners.

Having JDM parts for the tC really doesn't concern me, I odn't need to spend an assload of money on imported parts so my car *looks* like it *could* have come from Japan.. besides, the ultimate JDM mod, is right hand steering :-)

As for the springs, I heard that you can use stock shocks with the TRD springs as they won't lower it enough to affect the OEM equipment.

Springs should be just fine, but it depends how low you want to drop it. If you go to low your stock shocks will wear out a lot quicker.

Default Avensis

The Avensis from which the tC was created, is built and sold in Europe (designed in Japan). The suspension was configured in Europe by Lotus to be like other european cars, but made firmer when brought to the tC. http://autozine.kyul.net/html/Toyota3.htm

Default Off topic...i think

Sorry...I am probably the millionth person or the first person to ask this. I am waiting for my tC and I wanted to know is purchasing the struct tie bar worth it? What is the difference between the front struct tie bar and the rear sway bar everyone is talking about? Please help so I have a better understanding before I purchase it. Thank you

Strut bars brace the body to make the body stiffer. Sway bars transfer spring rate from one side to the other in a turn to prevent body roll and give better handling. If I had to choose between one or the other I would go sway bar all the way.

Ok...that's what I thought...Could I get both? Or does that defeat the purpose of one another? What is the price of a good sway...one that many people use on these forums. Scion offers a Hocthsiks(sp?) strut bar for $225. How much for a sway bar? Thank you
