Default 2007 Toyota Tundra Named Most Significant Vehicle

http://www.autoblog.com/2006/10/25/t...07-by-edmunds/

From autoblog.com...

Every year, the Edmunds staff creates a list of Most Wanted vehicles. Typically, at the top of the list sits what the staff proclaims as "Most Significant Vehicle of the Year." For 2007, this honor is bestowed upon the 2007 Toyota Tundra. Now, look past the whole list, which can be found after the jump, and check out the site's analysis of Toyota's full-size truck evolution. There is no question that the Tundra is aimed squarely at the Big Three's domination of the full size market, especially in comparison to the current Tundra, and dare we even bring up the long dead T100.

It's hard to argue with Edmunds' conclusion, the new Tundra might turn out to be the most significant vehicle of 2007. Not that it's anything special in and of itself, but because everyone will be watching how the market reacts to it. For the first time, an 'outsider' is bringing a full-line full-size truck, complete with three cab options, 3 bed options, and 3 engines (Sorry Nissan, the Titan didn't come to play). Detroit will be watching, Wall Street will be watching, the media will be watching, as will consumers themselves. Could Toyota unseat one of the major players in this segment, like it did to Ford and the Taurus? Time will only tell.

Maybe Edmunds is right on this one, but we must take umbrage with the Infiniti G35 Coupe being the most wanted Coupe Under $40,000. They need to raise that price point to $45,000 and throw out the Infiniti for the BMW 335i Coupe, but we digress.

Where the HELL is the LS460, LS460L and the LS600hL on that list? The Audi A8 is a great car. . . but it pales in comparison to the impact of the new LS. Auto parking, hybrid, long wheelbase options, huge bumps in power, and complete redesign. . . I mean common!

LS460 was the runner up. I haven't personally sat in the Audi so I can't yell about it too much.

I've come to the conclusion that Toyota wins so many awards that magazines are more and more hessitant to give them to Toyota. I guess they have to let the other manufacturers have a turn. . . and I guess it doesn't sell magazines to give the same awards to the same people everytime.

But in this situation, I think the LS460 is the CLEAR winner. BMW 3 series, Hyundai Azera, Honda Civic? Understandable wins. The A8 is a great car, IMO. But it just doesn't stand out that much. . . compared to the LS460

The new LS is amazing, but my heart still wants for a Lambo V10 powered S8.

The new Tundra will (hopefully) be the truck that buyers want.

Thats just what the world needs. Having a car that parks itself is just stupid. People are lazy and cant drive anymore.

I'm sure you'll be thinking the same thing when grandpa or miss-high-school-new-license dents or cracks your bumper trying to park in front of you or behind you.

I wish all cars had auto park. Why? Some people would use it, some wouldn't. But EVERYONE who sucks at parking would DEFINITELY use it.

I actually concur with their assessment. Don't get me wrong, I JUST BOUGHT A tC. It's a better car and a better value, IMO. But since the title of their camparo is "Most Significant Car," I'd have to give the award to Honda. The tC is too niche and too low volume. Also, the Honda is new for '07, and the tC has been out for quite some time. And finally, the Civic is ground breaking in its ugliness. . . I mean innovative styling. As an automotive enthusiast, I could understand why the Civic takes the win. But hey, I'd take the tC over a Civic anyday!

They are the same people who are too lazy to turn around when they back up cause the car beeps if they come close to something. Or feel its unsafe to drive in the snow so they use 4wd but forget that it doesnt help them stop until they plow into something because they were going too fast. Instead of making everything automatic just make sure people can drive safely. My high school was in the middle of the city so there was no room for parking lots. We all learned how to parallel park. Our country has some pretty low standards compared to Europe when it comes to this.

Ok dude. . . feel confident in your opinion. Sure, we'll make everyone else drive better. . . yeah we have the most powerful army in the world, and we can't even take control of Iraq. We gross trillions of dollars in the economy, but we can't even manage social security right. What makes you think that we can make everyone else drive better?

Continue to complain and redicule technology that will help bad drivers and keep them from damaging your car, and enjoy the yelling and screaming when the dent your car. I really doubt that making fun of auto-park is going to help you out in that regard. I guess we should get rid of seat belts, right? In a perfect world everyone would drive perfectly.

I prefer to be constructive. I see good technology when I see it. I'm going to do my very best to support this technology. And like ABS, airbags, traction control, and power windows, it will one day be a standard feature.

We can talk about all of the new technology being flim flam. But Toyotas biggest fight is gettin the 3rd generation Ford, Dodge and GM Truck divers into buying in to VSC and TRAC. Instead of Lockers and Duallys. This change doesn't take place over night but be patient I have driven the new truck in a variety of circumstances and the TOY WINS AGAIN!! . This will take time but should be a NO BRAINER!!. Magazines are something to read and Toyota products are something to drive!!!. All I can say is that SOME TRUCKS ARE PROUD OF WHAT THEY HAVE BEEN and THIS TRUCK IS PROUD OF WHAT IT WILL BE!!!

The LS460 autoparking system is crap at this point... you have to pull the car into just the right spot in order for the car to park right... the current parking system is not connected to the park assist system sensors, so the car doesn't know right where to start, or how far it is from another car or anything like that (which is why you still have to work the brake pedal)... we did a test and pulled up right next to a wall, and activated the parking system to see if it would hit the wall or not.... it did.
Don't get me wrong, it's a nice vehicle... and FAST for a car it's size... but somebody fell asleep at the drawing board somewhere. (base model ES gets power memory seats on both driver and passenger side, and blue tooth cell phone connections.... the new LS... DOESN'T... just two of the many oversights)

On the other hand, I've had the chance to work on several audi's, and although they are nice, they are rediculously over engineered (as are most german cars) and I hate working on them.

And although I may work for Lexus, and have worked for Toyota/Scion in the past.... new Civic > tC, hands down. At the 2001 civic model change, I believed Honda had dropped the ball... but with this new model, I believe they're back in the game to win it... I love the way it looks, the way it handles, and I always believed the tC felt like a 'cheap' and cheaply built car, not so much on the Civics.... and I will soon be in the market for a 2007/2008 Civic sedan, and Honda Fit.

Auto Parking is just technology for technology's sake. IMO, it is worthless. It's all a marketing gimick with car companies trying to one-up each other with new technology. I wish they would put some of that effort into the style of the cars.
