Default painting oem ground effects

I am thinking of having the oem gound effects painted a different color. Does anyone out there know about how much I could expect to have to pay for this? Any painters out there? Also I live in the dallas area so if you guys know of a good body shop that could do this let me know.

So in conclusion I need:

-removal of oem ground effects
-sandblast and paint effects
-put em back on

Thanks.

first off..they wont sandblast anything..they will just sand them with some 600-400 grit sand paper.

but if your having the shop take it on and off and all that..ur prolly lookin upwards of 600...they will ream you for installs...

Hey thanks for the answer. How hard is it to do the install yourself? If I took them off and installed them myself would that be a huge ordeal? How much would just having them painted be?

I had mine sprayed with truck bedliner when I got the car last March. I used Line-X, although Rhine-X must be the same thing. Those kind of places are usually accessory shops rather than paint shops. Mine was done while I waited and cost $350. The plastic was lightly sanded, masked, and sprayed in place. I could have had glossy or textured, and I chose textured.

dont have them paint them on your car....not a good idea...the linex is fine to do that..but the clear/paint needs to get the edges so it doesnt want to flake/peel

the groundeffects/sides are SUPER easy to take off. theya re just push clips. its a no brainer. i believe all you need is a screwdriver (flat head and phillups) and a number 10 socket and wrench....its really easy. im sure there is a DIY somewhere.

Thanks for the help. Here are some pics of what I plan to do. Going for a retro van look. Let me know what you guys think. Also keep in mind I've got a new billet grille coming in the mail to complete the look.

Current Box

This is what I'll probably do. Gray ground effects and pin stripes (photoshop)

Just stripes

The black version. Vintage got me thinking about this idea.

I like the first pic.

What about just the ground effect & low stripes w/o the headlight stripes?

The grey with the stripes is awesome. I want to do something similar, but in black.

This looks great! What are the specs on your wheels, I like those too!

Thanks for the comments guys. I really can't decide between the gray or the black but I'm leaning gray. It just has more of that old van feel to it. I like the black though because it looks so mean. I'll see what it looks like with the billet grill, that will probably look better on the gray.

The wheels are the deep dish steelies from "wheels of steel". Chad Truss also has a set of these and he sells them too. I believe there is a big thread on that but I'm lazy right now. They are 15 x 8's and I've got 195/60/15's on em. The offsets are 5 in the front and 4.75 in the back...forgot the mm. The box isn't lowered but I actually think I'm going to leave it. It just seems to fit the look I'm going for.

Also, I've never had paint work done before. Can I get this done at any body shop? Should I go with a chain or a hole in the wall joint? Any advice on this would be greatly appreciated. This is the first car I've ever customized. I'm having a blast though.

I kinda like the idea and I don't at the same time. I DO like the lower part, but the upper stripes, not so much. I think there are just too many of them. And more so the whole look makes me want to call the car an 'AstroStar Van' and those are just creeper cars. thats just my .02 cents but good luck! Oh and if you are iffy on the whole thing you can always go the vinyl route that way it's MUCH easier to sell the car.

I vote for black. I am thinking about doing someting similar to my TCM. I am not sure about the old van, it reminds me of a minivan, which I would think is a bad thing. Haven't seen too many tricked out Soccer Mom cars. But that's just my opinion.

Bossman, I'm definitely doing the stripes vinyl but are you saying I could do the ground effects that way too? ...And I'm not ever selling this car! That's crazy talk!

Here is a bad pic that I am getting inspiration from. This an old clunker but you get the idea. I'll admit it probably won't be seen as a good idea by many. But I'm weird.

yah people who drive those are weird lol...as for selling the car, i meant for when you GO TO sell it, it wont be as hard to move due to the mod in the paint. And yes I meant for the ground effects to be done in vinyl- the whole idea to be done in vinyl that way when it does come time to sell, you can take it back to OEM in a jiffy
